The Bag Eye Candy We’d Get if The Devil Wears Prada Had Been Filmed in 2019

That's all.

Bonjour from Paris! I’m in the City of Lights this week and have been soaking up all of the magical things this whimsical city has to offer (and I may even have a few new acquisitions to share soon–stay tuned!). While I haven’t thrown my phone into the fountain à la Andy Sachs just yet, no matter how tempted I have been, I took the opportunity to watch Miranda Priestly in action before jet setting off to Paris (I haven’t seen any freesias since I’ve been here, btw). The Devil Wears Prada is one of my all-time favorites films, not to mention it’s arguably one of the most iconic fashion movies of all time. It also just so happens to be one of the few “chick flicks” my husband enjoys watching with me, which means we watch it a lot. Despite its age, I’m constantly quoting, referencing, and re-watching the movie. It’s crazy that although its nearly 13 years old, The Devil Wears Prada is still so prevalent in today’s fashion world. I’ve been listening to City of Blinding Lights by U2 since I touched down in Paris, a song featured in the film.

I can’t tell you how many times I have had an outfit inspired by the movie, or how many times I wished I had Andy’s job (yes, I’m one of the millions of girls who would kill for that job). A few of my favorite looks (although hard to narrow it down to one or two) have got to be Andy’s Chanel boots outfit post-makeover (a given!), and the look she wears while galavanting around in an attempt to get the Harry Potter manuscripts. I adore her olive green dress paired with the metallic handbag in those pivotal scenes–so chic and still covetable in 2019! I’m also crazily obsessed with her Kelly green peacoat with animal print embellishments. Can someone tell me where I can find one?!

Sometimes I daydream about Hollywood releasing a sequel, and although I would totally be first in line if it ever did come out, I also believe that some things are sacred…and The Devil Wears Prada is undoubtedly sacred. I haven’t even heard so much as a whisper that Meryl Streep will be reprising her role as the iconic Miranda Priestly, but I still like to imagine all of the pretty clothes the star-studded cast would wear today if they were to release a sequel. The storyline of the movie is cute and holds its own, but let’s be honest, it’s the eye candy that makes it so incredible! The clothes, shoes, accessories in the film…I want it all. Actually, I change my mind. I don’t want Andy’s assistant job. I want Patricia Field’s job–costume designer of The Devil Wears Prada (and numerous other amazing movies and shows, including Sex and the City!).

I’m confident that the bags below would be Patricia Field and Miranda Priestly approved. What do you think they’d be wearing?

Miranda Priestly

The Devil herself would clearly be wearing Prada. After all, it is her namesake! If she’s not donning a Prada bag, I think Miranda would definitely have a Birkin in a 2019 version of the movie. No doubt we would see any of these bags flung across the desk of her newest assistant.

Andy Sachs

Andy has a drastic makeover transformation during the film, but we also see her style evolve organically throughout the movie. She gains her footing and her confidence, and is able to put her own looks together without the help of Nigel. Andy’s looks are my favorite from the movie (post-makeover, obviously). I’m pairing her with some bags that I think would work well with Andy’s new aesthetic.

Emily Charlton

Emily’s character is a bit on the edgier side of the fashion spectrum. She opts to wear dark colors and heavy eye makeup, giving her a cool girl vibe. I am still obsessed to this day with the Fendi Fortuny Spy bag she wears when she’s hit by a cab. If The Devil Wears Prada had been filmed in 2019, I see her wearing a black bag with bold hardware.
