It’s been clear from the jump that affordable bags were never going to be The Row’s stock-in-trade. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have built an upstart powerhouse by using the finest materials available to reinvent basics ranging from black blazers to cable-knit sweaters, and the duo’s $34,000 alligator backpack launched a trend almost single-handedly. Now, the company appears to be expansion-minded, with a new lineup of slightly less expensive bags that could pull in a larger customer base.
To be clear, these bags are not anything you’d call inexpensive, but when you keep in mind that The Row’s first line of bags was anchored by a leather day tote that cost in excess of $5,000, a bunch of new designs under $3,000 is worth noticing. The least expensive of these new bags use pebbled and textured leathers; if you want buttery softness, you’re going to have to dish out more money.
Some of the designs, including a less-expensive take on the brand’s popular backpack, also feature The Row’s first bit of external branding: a coin-sized metal disk with a small TR on it. Check out some of the bags below or shop Neiman Marcus’ full selection.
