If Game of Thrones Characters Wore Designer Bags…

I shop and I know things.

Well Game of Thrones fans, we made it! The highly anticipated series finale aired this month and if you haven’t watched it yet, I recommend you stop reading here because this post is dark and full of spoilers. Okay, maybe it’s not dark, but it definitely contains a spoiler or two – you have been warned. You don’t need me to tell you that Game of Thrones is undoubtedly one of the most successful television series of our time. I will let the ratings and fandom speak for themselves. While many fans were disappointed with the final season, the finale still broke the record of most watched HBO show of all time. I personally am still coming to terms with how the series ended, especially since I’ve been team Khaleesi since season one. Even though Game of Thrones didn’t have the perfect ending, does such a thing even exist for a show of such grandeur? It is my opinion that disappointment was inevitable since the fates of so many characters were at stake. At the end of the day, I am satisfied with the way they wrapped up the show despite a few grievances.

Recently I came across a gorgeous Gucci bag adorned with an intricately embellished dragon. I immediately thought of Daenerys and how she would rock the heck out of that Gucci bag. I seriously can’t picture anyone looking better with a dragon handbag than the Mother of Dragons herself.

Game of Thrones is wonderful for many different reasons, but fashion inspiration unfortunately isn’t really one of them. I know you probably don’t make a connection between Game of Thrones and handbags, but the Gucci bag got me thinking…what if the characters did wear fabulous bags? For fun I’m selecting the bags I think my favorite Game of Thrones characters from the final season would wear. This exercise is helping me cope now that one of my favorite shows of all time has come to an end.

Daenerys of the House Targaryen,
the First of Her Name,
Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons

I’ve found myself feeling personally victimized by Game of Thrones the last few weeks. Why you ask? Despite all of the foreshadowing that Dany may burn cities to the ground, like when she literally threatened “we will burn cities to the ground” in season two, I was still completely shocked when she went full-on Mad Queen. I choose to remember her in happier times and am in denial about how her story line actually ended. There truly is no other bag that suits my Khaleesi more than this fabulous Gucci dragon bag, don’t you agree?

Sansa Stark,
Queen of the North

If you had asked me a few years ago if Sansa would be among the last GOT characters standing, I would have scoffed. Sansa gets an honorable mention as my second favorite character on the show, but that wasn’t always the case. The younger Sansa from earlier seasons was impressionable, naïve, and downright bratty at times. Over the course of the series she evolved into one of the strongest characters on the show, which made me change my tune. Sansa’s plot line began with her goal of sitting on the throne, so becoming Queen of the North was a truly happy ending for her. Not only am I a fan of Sansa, but I have a major girl crush on the actress who portrays her, Sophie Turner. You can find Sophie in Louis Vuitton’s campaigns, so naturally I would pair Sansa with a Louis Vuitton bag. Sansa Stark has an eye for finer things and I think this Capucines BB suits her perfectly.

Cersei Lannister

Love her or hate her (and it’s probably the latter), Cersei has an undeniable signature style. An authority figure until the very end, Cersei’s confidence rings through each and every episode. Although she didn’t win the throne, she did win the style game, and that has to count for something. Towards the end of the series we see Cersei wearing a lot of black leather with stud and chain details, so this Alexander McQueen shoulder bag screams her name. The thick chain strap and skull details really cement this bag as the perfect choice for the evil queen.

Jon Snow

Jon Snow, the show’s resident hero, strikes me as a Prada man. It’s a total hunch that I’m running with because I can picture him riding his horse beyond the wall wearing this sophisticated belt bag. Jon is a skilled warrior and needs to be hands free the majority of the time, and this Prada bag definitely fits his lifestyle. Jon needs one hand on his sword and the other petting his beloved Direwolf, Ghost. Modern and stylish, a black belt bag is something Jon knows nothing about but desperately needs to.

Arya Stark

The ultimate badass, Arya Stark would surely not be bothered with flashy bags or logos. I would pair Arya with a mini bag, especially since she is a minimalist. All she needs is her sword, Needle, and the bare necessities to keep her happy. This bag is perfect because it fits an iPhone and a credit card or two, ideal for a no-frills individual like Arya. Aptly named the Atlas bag, it’s the ideal bag to pack on the journey Arya embarks on in the finale. For the record, I’d love to see an Arya spin-off, HBO!

Samwell Tarley

Samwell Tarley takes the title of kindest Game of Thrones character, and I was delighted to see him survive until the end of the series. Lovable and endearing, Sam doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Extremely observant and intelligent, Sam is often seen with books in hand, which aid him in unearthing some of the biggest secrets on the show. I can totally see him wearing this MCM backpack to hold all of his books.

Yara Greyjoy

Yara Grey is the Queen of the Iron Islands, a group of islands off of the West Coast of Westeros. Known for being surrounded by a tempestuous coastline, the people of the Iron Islands fight their battles by ship, known as the Iron Fleet. This Tory Burch bag is giving me serious nautical vibes, which I think Yara would love. It would remind her of home while still being cute and perfect for summer! I personally would like to twin with Yara…this bag is calling my name.

Are you a Game of Thrones fan? I’d love to hear what you thought of the finale and what bags you would pair with your favorite characters!
