Introducing the Bottega Veneta Hop Bag

There's a new BV classic in town...

Nearly two years into his appointment at Bottega Veneta, Matthieu Blazy has found his groove. Each season, he continues to expand on the foundation set, building upon the brand’s iconic Italian heritage and exploring its tradition in leathercraft, all wrapped up in a modern, contemporary package. Bottega Veneta, through the lens of Matthieu Blazy, continues to feel interesting and fresh despite its ties to the past. It’s innovative and wearable all the same.

Blazy’s Fall collection is the final chapter of his trilogy of Italia, drawing equal inspiration from mythology and futurism. The collection, which first wowed us on the runway back in February is here, and with it comes the introduction of a brand new handbag silhouette that is sure to delight.

Storied Intrecciato Weave, Updated

The Hop Bag, with its distinct, storied Intrecciato weave is instantly recognizable as Bottega Veneta. Its shape is inspired by the silhouette of one of the House’s most timeless hobo bags that was first introduced in 2002. However, this version is updated with sleek lines and a pyramid-like silhouette. The triangular shape offers a unique edge and a modern spin on a BV House classic.

Speaking to the duality of function and form, the Hop perfectly embodies Bottega Veneta’s modern approach to dressing. Slouchy but incredibly chic, it’s introduced this season in two sizes, small and large. It is truly an equal mix of fashion and function.

It’s All in the Details

Crafted entirely by hand, the beauty is really in the details here. The Hop Bag is made using a 3D Intreccio technique performed by Bottega Veneta’s expert artisans.

Each one is crafted over the course of two days, and because of the hand-crafted finish, they may vary slightly in the thickness of the weave, allowing each buyer to truly own a one-of-a-kind piece. The uniqueness of each bag and the appeal of its craft is apparent with every touch. Having the bag in hand, it is easy to see the quality and craft that goes into its making.

The larger version of the Hop Bag is what big bag dreams are made of, while the smaller version is the perfect everyday size — not too large but certainly not too small; it will even fit an iPad along with other daily essentials.

Lined in soft, light Calf leather, the bag is further defined by its closure, which features an interior magnetic button hidden by the two overlapping panels. An internal zip pocket is revealed, which works nicely for smaller items that need to be easily accessed. The price on the large is $4,400, and the small retails for $3,100.
