When it comes to buying a new handbag, at what point do you consider your purchase an investment? For most of us, with the way the economy has been fluctuating lately, buying an expensive handbag might require a little more thought and planning than say, an impulse purchase. This got me thinking, how many handbag lovers consider some of their purchases investments and what makes a handbag an investment? Is it the price, the line, the exclusivity, or something else? Around the same time, I stumbled across the Bottega Veneta Vibio Large Clutch. We all know Bottega Veneta handbags carry a hefty price tag and sometimes finding a handbag that mimics the look might be a little nicer on the bank account (see Purse Blog Savvy). But, is it worth pinching pennies for a designer handbag you’ve been lusting over?

Now, this clutch is without a doubt gorgeous. The quilted python clutch as a standard frame opening, tab detailing at the top, an internal zip pocket and lush suede lining. To me, the python stands out the most. Bottega Veneta handbags have always demonstrated amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail, and clearly this has not been sacrificed with this clutch. A clutch like this would be a gorgeous addition to any outfit you might like to pair it with and it is without a doubt sure to turn heads. So, would you consider this clutch a worthwhile investment? If so, buy through Net-a-Porter for $3,950.

  • Too pricey. You could get a great exotic bag for that price. I am actually surprised it costs so much, but it is beautiful!

I love BV, but this one looks a bit too vintage for my liking, and the price is outrageous – you could get vintage python (or a Lucille de Paris crocodile bag) for a lot less. As for investment pieces, I consider the bags I truely love investment because I invest in the massive smile that appears on my face everytime I look at them. Exclusivity really doesn’t matter to me, and besides, all major brands that make ‘limited editions’ decide to continue those limited lines and thus they become less exclusive (i.e. LV, Prada’s fairy etc.). If looked at investment from a price/durablility/price-per-use point of view I’d say the best bag I own is my Mulberry Bayswater, which I’ve used almost every day since I got her in June – and I think she’ll be with me for a long long time, thus becoming a better investment as time goes by.

Gorgeous, no doubt, but for a clutch, it’s too much!!!

I’m not a fan of this clutch and it’s too pricey. After all, it’s just a clutch. In general I’d rather spend that kind of $ on a handbag because I don’t carry clutches too often. I’d get more use out of a handbag.

Yes, many Bottega Veneta bags comes with a price tag, which is enough to feed a entire family. Im a BV fan myself, and have seen this bag IRL.

I believe the python leather, and the quilted design contributed to the expensive price tag. BV’s exotic leather articles are very pricey.

In my opinion, I think this bag is unique, and BV is almost timeless. But maybe interested parties can consider the black version! I prefer the black version more.

Yikes i cant believe BV are so so expenisve. I havent bought one yet solely because i keep finding other bags to buy instead due to price. And here we go again with this clutch, nice as it is.

I agree with Elsie on this particular bag. But back to your question Shannon…”But, is it worth pinching pennies for a designer handbag you’ve been lusting over?” My opinion is a resounding yes! If you love the bag, and place a value on it that corresponds with the price then get it.
