Though Bottega Veneta is not typically one for playful novelty bags, when I was perusing its site this week, I ran into a bag that put a smile on my face. This is Bottega Veneta’s take on a brown paper bag. You know, the version of a grocery shopping bag you receive when you checkout. However, this bag is fully made from leather, and that makes this an unexpected bag.
Upscale Paper Bag
Everything about the Bottega Veneta Brown Bag (it is available in medium and small) could quickly trick you into believing it is made from paper. But upon closer inspection, you’ll find this bag is crafted from calfskin leather. It has been treated in a way to give that paper-like appearance, but you’ll only find leather and suede lining with these bags.
One extra touch that I think speaks to a playfulness and eye for design is the thin handles – if you look closely, you will see the leather is designed in a way here to make it resemble the paper bag handles you are used to getting, with the leather pieces wrapping around the handles.
Otherwise, these bags are simple. The interior has a single compartment and is lined with suede. There are two sizes available, medium and small. Dimensions of the medium are 12.8″ H x 12.6″ W x 7″ D with a 4.7″ handle drop, while the dimensions of the small are 10.2″ H x 7.9″ W x 4.9″ D with a handle drop of 3.5″.
Shop the medium here and the small here!

I love the absolute simplicity..
Exactly! It looks like perfection.
Playful side of BV. Been looking forward to this bag ever since the fashion show a few months back!
I think that this is a cool, novelty time. I’d carry it.
It looks like the bags I currently pay 10 cents for at the grocery store.
That’s the beauty of it…
This proves people have more money than brains. If they can be convinced to spend thousands on this, they’ll buy anything since they have no discriminatory taste. I’ll put my money into a classic because this will be “gone with the wind”.
Many people don’t care whether something is “a classic.” They want to buy what they love. Just because someone wants to buy this bag, it doesn’t mean that they have no “brains” as you put it so eloquently above. On the contrary, I would argue that they are not as enslaved to the false security of fashion “classics” as you are.
Not enslaved. I have class & don’t like to throw my money away. In fact, “many people” buy into every silly little fad that comes along, like this. That makes them enslaved to poor fashion choices, no matter the designer. If they want to spend their money on things that have the longevity of an ice-cream cone, bless their ❤️.
“I have class.” That very statement tells me you have none.
Bless your heart. ❤️
Hey if we’re doing leather trash bags then why not paper bags. Who asked for this?!
My friend said “This is what Gwyneth carries to the health food store we’ve never heard of buying groceries we’ll never afford.” ROFL
Megs, I’ve been a huge bottega fan for a long time. My first designer bag was a maxi hobo that I bought 16 years ago and still have. I, too, saw this bag on the website this week and was intrigued. Initially, I wasn’t sure what to think but I decided I actually really like it. Thanks for featuring it!
When I first saw this article I really wanted to not like this bag for some reason, but looking at it a few times, I think it’s actually pretty cute.
It’s Derelicte!
Whilst not my preference, it’s a smart way for BV to indulge in the novelty trend without an expiration date in the coolness. Well played.
This is a joke!
Anya Hindmarch did it better
Nah, if I want a bag in that style, I’ll go with the Brave Brown Bag. They have a leather version for 750 (and canvas versions for much less). They’ve also been doing the bags for decades.

Aesthetics aside…those skinny handles hurt your hands when the bag has weight to it.
As for aesthetics…it will be fun to see someone else carry it, but it won’t be me.
Quite in Balenciaga’s wheelhouse
Fun, elegant, just what I love
I love it.
no no no to the small size, but big yes to the medium size
Hi
Bottega is not pioneer in designing such “paper bag” . Back in late 90s, early 2000 there was a German leather brand Bree that produced something like this.
Sadly I think they may not be around any longer (at least not in Singapore).
And only a fraction of costs. Lol!!
