In the last few seasons, luxury brands have been stepping up the game when it comes to hair accessories, and we are all in. While handbags are an easy way to elevate any outfit and are the starting point for any outfit’s accessories, hair accessories take it to the next level. Headbands, scrunchies, claw clips, and barrettes have become just as coveted designer items, and this season, the options are better than ever.
I’ve been obsessed with adding a designer headband to my rotation recently. Earlier this week, I began outfit planning for a handful of holiday gatherings this weekend, and it was then that I decided one of Prada or Miu Miu’s velvet headbands would go perfectly with a leopard dress that’s been in my closet for years.
While these items are pricey, they’re not nearly as costly as purchasing a handbag, and I love the idea of gifting one to the luxury lovers in my life (I would be happy to receive one as well!). A designer hair accessory is one of those rare items that will delight and is something most people wouldn’t ordinarily buy for themselves!

As usual, Prada takes a $4 headband from Claire’s, sticks a metal triangle on it with a glue gun, and sells it for $480. 🤣🤣🤣 The sad part is that someone is gonna spend that kind of money and convince themselves that this is a “luxury” purchase.
Yes, they are pricey, but it’s not that serious! Just a fun accessory 🙂
Actually, it’s very serious when corporations are blatantly scamming customers by selling low quality items they manufacture in developing countries at a very low cost for hundreds of dollars under the cover of “luxury.” It’s shameful practices.
I don’t really think it was a scamming, they just selling their “Brands”. so as the customer, just be a smart customer. Actually, anything coming from “Luxury brands” always manufactured with a low cost, that 100k bags won’t cost that much either, it just simply business. So, just choose wisely.
I see where you are coming from, but I also know that fashion is meant to be playful and fun. Very little of it is something we really need, so we decide to add something to our wardrobe and life that makes us feel something. I wouldn’t spend more than drug store prices on hair accessories, but I would spend a good amount on a hat if it looks great on me!
It is our decision to decide what to spend money on and how much and why 🙂
It’s not fun when the customer is made a fool.
While I 100% agree with you unfortunately there are always going to be people that keep this “scam” alive by continuing to buy these products. For them, spending $400 on a headband is like a few pennies to you and I. Some people are so “logo hungry” that they’ll buy designer products at any cost while the rest of us just shake our heads in disbelief.
I think you are right. But I am well off financially and I would never spend that kind of money on something this cheap. I mean, the markup has to be exponential—even for a designer product. But yes, for some folks it’s all about the logo. I’m definitely not against discrete logos. What I find most problematic with this headband is the fact that the cost of production and the price at retail are absolutely, epically disproportionate. Obviously, luxury goods are all about perceived value and not actual value. But I don’t see any value at all in a basic headband with a Prada logo glue on it. Customers are being mocked here.
No one is being scammed. People can make their own choices around what the perceived value an item has. If it’s not for you, don’t buy it. If you think their practices are shameful, again don’t buy their offerings. For some people a prada headband is right up their alley, and they will buy an item and enjoy it. To them it might be of value. It might be affordable to them, in the same way a $4 headband from Claire’s is to other people. Not sure of the need to judge people around what they purchase like some kind of “well off financially” superiority flex. It’s not something I would buy either, but thats the joy of fashion, there are items at all price points to suit all people. Megs is right, it’s not that serious. To each their own.

Unfortunately, these all look very cheap and tacky. I used to wear hairbands (headbands), clips, etc., like these in primary school. Mine looked as good, and they were from the supermarkets and cheap clothing stores of the day! As Luigi M says, it’s all like Claire’s Accessories stuff. Could buy the same in H&M now, I don’t doubt. The Prada and Celine ones are so plain too! Ugh, no way.
Nope. some of them can DIY. just Nope
Accessories can be a more accessible entry point to a designer brand. A Prada headband is a lot less expensive than a bag. Enjoyed this article. Thanks for sharing.
