The 14 Most Interesting Celebrity Bag Picks of Summer 2016

This summer we saw unassuming new handbag styles from Tod’s and MCM turn into bonafide hits. A certain Versace style also finally took off, and the ongoing Gucci renaissance ensured that we saw almost as many Guccis on A-lister arms as we saw Givenchys. Celebs seemed to love all The Row‘s latest styles with equal enthusiasm, and Céline enjoyed a fantastic few months, even though only one of its newest styles seems to be catching on. As the season winds to a close, let’s look back and review what our favorite celeb bag lovers carried all summer long.

Alessanda Ambrosio
Versace Palazzo Empire Bag
$2,838 via farfetch.com

For a time, Gigi Hadid was the sole celeb ambassador for Versace’s hottest new style, but soon other celebs followed suit. Celeb traction definitely picked up considerably after Versace rolled out a version of the Versace Palazzo Empire with contrast piping. It’s always in the details.

Alessandra Ambrosio
Tod’s Wave Bag
$2,165 via Saks

Alessandra is always an arbiter of style, and this summer she certainly did not disappoint us in the handbag department. Not that she ever does. Celebs loved the Tod’s Wave Bag in its many different sizes and iterations, and its popularity hasn’t wavered yet. (No pun intended.)

Alicia Vikander
Louis Vuitton Petite Malle Bag

Alicia Vikander has done a lot for Louis Vuitton since she was tapped as its newest celeb face. This summer, she carried several different versions of one of the brand’s most popular new designs, the Louis Vuitton Petite Malle Bag.

Beyoncé
Burberry Milverton Satchel
Shop via Burberry

This edition of the Burberry Milverton Satchel wasn’t widely available when Beyoncé randomly carried it while out and about in NYC back in July, and of course, now it’s nowhere to be found. It’s tragic that brands can’t time more product roll-outs and reissues around Beyoncé’s whims, but such is the nature of Queen Bey.

Chrissy Teigen
Céline Watersnake Trotteur Bag
$2,035 via Vestiaire Collective

Chrissy Teigen carried this gorgeous snakeskin version of one of Céline’s newer styles, and we certainly took notice. Chrissy, like Alessandra Ambrosio, is one of our top celeb bag lovers. She basically sets the pace for the rest of us.

Chrissy Teigen
The Row Classic 5 Tote
$4,500 via Net-a-Porter

That’s why we know that The Row Classic 5 Tote will also be around for a while. Chrissy was especially fond of The Row’s bags this season, but this was by far her favorite. You can see more of Chrissy’s year-round faves in the The Many Bags of Chrissy Teigen.

Elsa Hosk

Céline certainly did more than okay this summer. A few of the brand’s sleeper hits from seasons past, like the Box Bag, continued to gain steam with celebs like the forever-fashionable Elsa Hosk.

Gabrielle Union
Marc Jacobs Gotham Satchel
$450 via Nordstrom

This Marc Jacobs satchel definitely had a moment with celebs earlier in the summer. This popular graffiti’d version is long gone, but more basic versions of the Gotham are still widely available. This MJ style is one of the most affordable popular bags of the summer by far, and it obviously looks fantastic with double denim.

Heidi Klum
MCM Milla Tote
$920 via Nordstrom

Here’s another top pick that won’t set you back for more than a grand. Heidi Klum was quite fond of this tote from the German brand MCM. It comes in a virtual rainbow of colors, and Heidi already owns several of them.

Jennifer Garner
Hermès Octagone Bag

It’s easy to forget that Hermès does anything besides Birkins and Kellys, but here’s Jennifer Garner, reminding us all that Hermès is still willing to take chances, even though the brand could easily rest on its laurels for a few more decades.

Margot Robbie
Gucci Marmont Shoulder Bag
$2,490 via Gucci

We honestly hadn’t given much thought to Margot Robbie‘s handbag preferences before this summer, but her epic wardrobe for the Suicide Squad press tour gave us plenty of opportunities to do so. (You can see more of her faves in The Many Bags of Margot Robbie). Margot carried many different Gucci styles on this tour, but this one was our favorite.
