The first official day of autumn isn’t until September 23rd, but with Labor Day behind us, I’m already embracing my favorite season of the year. Over the last week or so, I’ve begun the exhilarating process of switching my wardrobe over from sundresses to sweaters and have pulled my darker colored bags out from the depths of their dust bags. I gravitate towards dark jewel-toned and neutral-colored bags for fall, it seems like a natural transition from the brighter colors I wear during the warmer seasons. I love fall’s aesthetic in its entirety and of course the bags that come with this crisp season.
We all know that everything old is new again and that nostalgia is dominating the fashion trends du jour. I’ve been happily participating in this trend, and have been embracing it in every facet of my life. Naturally, this means I have been binge-watching Gossip Girl on Netflix over the last few months. I just finished the final season of the iconic fashion-filled show, and let me tell you, I am so happy HBO is rebooting the series because I didn’t realize the true void in my life without it. Throughout the various seasons, I was struck by just how much plaid our favorite Upper East Siders wear. It’s not lost on me that they obviously are wearing plaid because it’s part of their high school uniform, but the characters opt to wear plaid outside of the classroom quite a bit, and the show definitely had me feeling all things plaid again. I made the realization that I need more plaid in my life.
My go-to outfit in autumn is chunky booties, skinny jeans, and an oversized sweater (and yes…I usually can be found with a pumpkin spice latte in hand). But this fall I want to step up my look and add a plaid handbag into my rotation. A plaid bag is an easy way to make a statement and is the perfect item to transition from summer to autumn because no other print is as synonymous with autumn as plaid. I personally like mixing and matching patterns and would pair a plaid handbag with a leopard print accent, but a neutral-colored ensemble works well too if you’re not as comfortable with pattern mixing. A plaid handbag is an updated way to achieve the quintessential fall aesthetic and luckily there are some really cute options available right now! I’ve been looking up plaid bags all summer long…I’ve been mulling over which one to buy and now that fall is fast approaching, I’ve narrowed down my top 10 picks here.
