3.1 Phillip Lim is normally a brand that we spend more time discussing over at PurseBlog because they occupy a similar odd space between the “contemporary” and “premier” designer price points as Alexander Wang; simply put, they’re usually a little more expensive than the bags we feature in this space. Luckily for price-conscious fashionistas, the 3.1 Phillip Lim Minnie Lambskin Satchel comes in below the price point that we’d normally expect to see from Lim.

When I look at this bag, I can’t help but think of how well it will age. Lambskin is already supple and luxurious straight out of the box, but this type of finish and color always look better with a little bit of wear and tear. Because this design is so classic and timeless, you’ll be able to enjoy the bag for years to come without wondering whether you look like you’re wearing last season’s bag; this design is seasonless. Buy through Nordstrom for $495.

I like the color. It is a yellow that you can wear year round, not only in the summer. (iPad)

Great bag for the price, but its timelessness makes the “contemporary” label given to lower-priced designers all the more confusing to me. (ipad)

    • Amanda Mull

It’s hard to find a diplomatic way to say “cheaper.” That’s why I so often put “contemporary” in scare quotes when I use it, it’s such a euphemism.

      • Vitta

Amanda, a “contemporary line” means a “cheaper line” in your vocabulary? I didn’t realize that you equate a style type with a price-range. Good to know. By the way, this bag also comes in black.

I love the concept and shape. But the color is a little weird. I can’t decide if it’s orange, yellow, or something in the brown family. (iPad)

    • Vitta

The color is called “amber”. And it also comes in black.
