Saint Laurent Gives the Classic Camera Bag An Update for Spring 2024

Saint Laurent Cassandre

In the late 2010s, the always trusty camera bag was a hugely popular handbag silhouette. Given its name, thanks to its petite, boxy proportions, which would have been perfect for the chunky cameras of the late 90s and 2000s, not only does the camera bag shape offer fashion, but functionality too.

Thanks to its zip-around design, often roomy interior, and crossbody strap, the shape is fairly simple in silhouette, making it one of the more affordable, entry-level options in a designer’s lineup, even with the rising cost of handbags.

While the trusty camera bag will now cost you well into the one thousand dollar mark (who remembers when the Gucci Marmont Mini was under $1K…it’s now $1,550!), the shape is still one of the lesser-priced options in the luxury space.

Today, we have a new option to add to your list from Saint Laurent; its classic camera bag is given a sleek update for fall 2024.

A Classic Shape, Updated

A camera bag is one of those silhouettes that everyone should have in their wardrobe. From the affordability and functionality discussed above to the ease of wear, a camera bag is the perfect grab-and-go style that you can wear dressed up or down.

In past seasons, Saint Laurent has offered a few versions of the classic shape, like the Lou, Mini Lou, and Blogger, but its latest version is an elevated take that’s perfect for both busy days running around town and nights out.

The Cassandre Mattelassé Carré Mini Camera bag joins the line-up this season, characterized by its quilted overstitched lambskin leather and YSL hardware. The bag’s name reads mini, and the size falls somewhere between the Classic Lou and the Mini Lou, with dimensions of 7.7″ X 5.5″ X 1.6″. The zipped main compartment extends all the way around, allowing for maximum organization, and inside there is one slit pocket.

Not a fan of camera bags, I get the functionality but they just come off as basic.

I have the old one with the leather strap and square shape. I got a lot of use out of it. I always thought it should have had a chain strap to make it look more elegant. But I don’t know about the new shape or the new pattern. Have to see it in person or worn to see the full effect.
