I have been trying (keyword here) to downsize my closet over the last few months. It is truly bursting at the seams. As for my bags? Well, to be honest, I’m nearing the point of too many bags.
I can’t exactly say I’ve reached the point of purse peace, which, to be honest, is also a problem. If I were to get a new bag, I would ideally get rid of one to keep my collection concise. The problem is that I don’t see myself selling any of the bags I own.
Admittedly, the downsizing process has become more of an organizational process, allowing me to make sense of everything I own (which is entirely too much).
While categorizing my handbags, which live on the top shelf of my built-in closet system, spanning the entire length of my bedroom, I discovered things I forgot I even owned. I hate to admit that, truly. All the way on the back of the first shelf, I found an Acne Studios nylon bag, which I bought to wear when walking my dog (don’t ask).
The Forgotten Child
A relic from the mid-2010s, my Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag, was hiding on my middle shelf, and right next to it, a bag I also seem to always forget about came into view. My vintage Louis Vuitton Epi Pont Neuf PM. It is a true gem and one of the most special pieces in my collection.
I bought the bag for less than $700 on Fashionphile a few years back (before Epi Leather made its grand return). The bag is from 1998, but some arrived in pristine condition despite being almost 25 years old!

There is something so special about owning a bag made when I was just a child. I loved the blue hue, and while I’ve worn the bag plenty of times, somehow, I always seem to forget to reach for her! Maybe it’s the incredibly roomy interior I never seem to fill or the top handle silhouette I don’t gravitate towards.
Yet when I do bring her out, I feel that special pang again each time. Truthfully, I’ve only worn the bag once this whole year, but I’m writing this post as a reminder to use it more and to remind you to do the same with your “forgotten children.” *starts to plan outfits that match the bag.*
Which bag in your closet doesn’t get the attention it deserves?
I bought an HAC 40 and although it’s a breathtaking bag, I don’t use it as often as I thought I would. The base is just too wide for everyday wear.
I love the Pont-Neuf! It’s a great classic epi bag. Enjoy it!
Thank you! I need to use it more – I also want to add an Epi Jasmin to my collection.
Every time you share an image of your Pont-Neuf, I head over to the pre-loved apps to look and like. Just have to pull the trigger. It’s such a cute bag!
And gosh, I love my red Gucci Soho Disco. It’s pre-loved and I got it in great condition for a steal, but ppl always think that it’s not trendy or current enough. I shake my head. She’s a workhorse and looks impeccable despite her use!
My Judith Leiber and LV Dhanura
Mt Tory Burch soft Fleming. I adore that bag, but I’m not into shoulder bags at the moment. I carried it to church a couple of Sundays ago and was reminded at how beautiful and well-made it is.
I have a small Givenchy Antigona from before the long strap was detachable. I never wear it because the bag is bulky enough without a strap dangling from it. I should see if they can change the hardware to the strap to make it detachable or perhaps consider removing it altogether. I guess I don’t think about it since I never use it.
A black Loewe Missy bag that I bought in Barcelona in 2019. It’s a nice, but not too big, black zip top pouch that can be hand carried or worn crossbody. I really should use it more, but I forget that I have it. I will probably take it on a month long trip to Europe in September since it’s actually quite versatile for travel. And I’ll never get rid of it since it was my first Loewe bag.
Pink polka dots YSL Kate bag. Its so specific but I love it. Need to use it more. I am committed.
