What Are Your 2026 Handbag Resolutions?

We're entering one of the most exciting times in luxury fashion—what does that mean for your collection?

It’s hard to believe that we’re less than a month away from a new year, but a walk down Madison Avenue will leave you dizzy with the scent of pine and blinded by the many Christmas lights lining the shops. If you haven’t started your holiday shopping yet, you’re already behind, but we’re not here to stress you out; we’re here to talk about resolutions.

No, not those kinds of resolutions. Here at PurseBlog, year-end reflections are light-hearted and fun! I won’t ask you how many books you read this year (not as many as I should have) or if you learned anything new (also, no), but I will ask what handbag goals you hit this year.

Looking Ahead: Your 2026 Handbag Resolutions

Even better, we’re here to discuss the handbag resolutions you’ve got your sights set on for the coming year. With an exciting year in fashion ahead, we’re anxious to hear them! As we approach the New Year, the new class of 2025 will make waves as their first collections hit stores. Will you be lining up for Jonathan Anderson’s Dior or the former Proenza Boys’ Loewe?

What about visions of holy grails dancing in your head?

Personally, I feel pretty at peace with my handbag collection (I love and use them all, with no plans to sell any). I have reached a point in my life where I shop mindfully and don’t overspend.

With all of that said, I’m at a point in my life where I feel comfortable starting to save for my holy grail (!!!). While it likely won’t be the year I make the purchase, I feel ready to start a fund for my dream vintage Hermès Box Kelly Sellier 28 in burgundy with GHW. I’m also considering adding the Loewe Amazona 180 to my collection.

Until we have a government that actually does something for affordability and to lower inflation, my 2026 will have zero luxury purchases. The price of everything else is so high and my income has not kept up… Like many of my friends, my budget has been squeezed so bad that we are now struggling to afford the basics. In just one year, things have gotten so much worse.

I don’t really set specific handbag goals, but my 2026 resolution is to clear out more of the pieces I no longer use while keeping those with sentimental value, and to focus on bespoke pieces that actually work for my lifestyle, along with exploring more niche and contemporary brands.

Definitely clear out the clutter. Unless something has great sentimental value or I use it regularly, I have resolved to let it go.

Lately, I’ve enjoyed shopping smaller/independent “made in our local studio/workshop” brands. My current faves are Lindquist (Rhode Island) and Primecut (Portland, OR).

I cleared out my handbags closet with five to six remaining, and I think my goal is to keep exploring secondhand/ new and upcoming designers before falling into the obvious, pricy, high-end designer pieces.

I got more into ready-to-wear last year so I’m grateful to develop some sense of finding quality pieces regardless of the pricepoint

In terms of decluttering i hope i can still sell 1 more bag but right now i find it very difficult to convince myself because i love vintage bags too.
In terms of goals i have to force myself to buy a neutral colored bag (the picotin is next on my wishlist to check off) since i only have 3 out of 26 total bags in my collection. It wont make my heart flutter but definitely a need in my closet.

There are a few bags that are still on my wishlist (mostly vintage), though at this point they aren’t really filling any holes, they’re just pretties that I like so the drive to get one is low. I’ve found the past few years of handbags uninspiring for my tastes and have gravitated to jewelry; much to hubby’s dismay 🤣.

The only bag that is currently on my wish list is a Rock Birkin 25. One day…. *sighs*
