Glitter, in any form, presents some logistical challenges. First, it gets on everything. Second, it won’t come off. It’s the herpes of the craft world; once you’ve got glitter, it’s yours forever. Third, it is, in the immortal words of one Tim Gunn, a lot of look. All of that forms the context in which we must consider the Saint Laurent Lulu Bunny Glitter Finish Bag, which, based on its quick sell-out at Net-a-Porter, clearly has some fans.

Daytime glitter isn’t a look that most people attempt in great swaths, let alone in a statement-making piece like a bag. This design is a shape and size generally used during the waking hours, though, and its base is leather. Either Saint Laurent is trying to glam up your weekend shopping look or deconstruct some of the formality around evening dressing; I’m not sure which, and I’m not sure if this bag really works for either. Or maybe it works for both. I’ve been thinking about this bag for several days, and my answer seems to vacillate wildly with my mood.

Would you feel comfortable carrying this bag during the day, or would you save it for cocktail hour? Or, perhaps, neither? If you can imagine the perfect context in which to carry this bag, let us know what it is in the comments.

As mentioned, this sparkly little thing sold out quickly at Net-a-Porter, but you can still pick it up via MyTheresa for $1,390.

No, I don’t think so. It’s a beautiful purse. I can use it if I own that purse, of curse, at night. I don’t like much, um, shiny stuff. If I own one bag that’s with full of glitter, it would be one color and it would be in black.

I would. There is no cardinal rule in fashion on how, when and where to use/wear fashion accessories.

I would not carry this bag even if someone gave it to me. It is impractical.

Not likely. I’m no fan of glitter anyway, but this bag does nothing for me. A bag with glitter has to have that “je ne sais quoi” and for me this one just doesn’t have it.

I don’t mind some daytime shine. This is quite a bit of glitter. I still think it could be pulled off during the day, but I feel like the owner would need to be rather young…lower 20’s or younger. Don’t get me wrong, I am out of that age range and I still like sparkle, but that amount of sparkle reminds me of something I would wear in high school. Of course I’m sure there is a 60 year old out there somewhere who can prove me wrong 😉

I can’t stop laughing at the line about herpes. I will never look at glitter without giggling again.

I would if it was a little bigger… too small for a day bag!

I personally tend to like everything strange and unusual, so I limit the urge by buying fabulous accessories like glasses, bags and shoes. Needless to say, this bag has me drooling and imagining where I’d bring it (even daytime, oh yes! )

Christmas and New Years’ parties! But then I don’t think I could wear a sparkly sweater…
