PurseBlog Asks: Do you prefer your Celine dressy or casual?

Phoebe Philo is a force to be reckoned with in the accessories world. Philo was at Chloe when the brand was driving the world crazy with the omnipresent Paddington and Silverado bags, and now she’s at Celine, making fashion people everywhere lose their minds over Luggage Totes, Classic Box Bags and Trapeze Satchels. She may not design the bags herself, but Philo has a way of bringing out the best in her accessories staff and capturing the attention of bag lovers everywhere. Wherever she goes, great bags follow.

Now that Celine sits comfortably atop the accessories industry as the brand to watch, what does carrying one of its bags say about a woman? What kind of message does it telegraph, and in turn, how do we view the bags as elements of our wardrobe? The more celebrities throw their weight behind Celine’s bags, the more publicly dissectible examples we have. Today, we’re going to check out the divergent styles of Lucy Liu and Rashida Jones to get your opinions on your preferred way to carry Celine.

Lucy Liu with Celine Trapeze Satchel

The best of Philo’s work at Celine has a lean, minimalist bent to it, which lends itself extremely well to a tailored, dressed-up aesthetic. The Celine Trapeze Bag, its early functional issues mostly solved, has that look, plus the gaping gussets to match that other It Bag, the Celine Luggage Tote. While I don’t love Ms. Liu’s shades in this photo, her multi-textured Trapeze Bag goes quite well with her modern take on a topcoat for a grown-up, luxurious public appearance look.

Rashida Jones with Celine Nano Luggage Tote:

On the other hand, Celine’s overwhelming popularity has caused it to expand its extremely profitable accessories line in some unexpected ways – namely, the addition of the Celine Nano Luggage Tote, the brand’s most casual bag and an extremely popular choice among off-duty models and celebrities. Rashida Jones, for example, paired hers with another off-duty staple, the Isabel Marant Bekket Sneaker Wedges. This bag doesn’t have quite the same stately feel of the original Luggage Totes, and the diminutive size and crossbody strap give it a casual edge that makes it easier to carry with jeans and sneakers (albeit extremely trendy and expensive ones) than the standard size.

I think the beauty of the Celine bags is that they can be worn either way – the bag itself is making the statement.  That said, I do not like the nano at all – it just looks so cartoonish.  I can see it on the arms of an over-indulged toddler, but not an adult…

Yeah, I don’t like the nano either. I think it just looks so ridiculous every time I see it.

Rashida Jones always looks unkempt. Even a Celine tote can’t change that. Hard to believe that she’s Peggy Lipton’s daughter. Those shoes are just dreadful.

Lynnie

Maybe unkempt to you means edgy and daring in the real world…

If jeans and giant tennis shoes are “edgy and daring in the real world,” then you’re right, of course.

Lynnie

Of course I am, that is what the average person wears, not every celebrity feels inclined to wear heels and dress up to go nowhere…

I have seriously considered a Celine bag a few times.  The Luggage Tote just makes me laugh as I see a face every time I look at one.  The Trapeze Bag has issues with where the closure is attached to the leather, put your things in it and it hangs terribly.  I still might purchase a Luggage Tote…..Fall 2012 there is a Hobo that looks really nice…so maybe….

Rashida

I think they look great both ways to be honest!

i agree with one of the previous comments — Celine bags allow you to wear them both ways. i fell in love with the Celine gusset cabas tote after seeing Elin Kling and Caroline’s Mode wearing them. the slouchiness and simplicity made any outfit cool and edgy. the Luggage seems more suited for dressed up outfits.

i just don;t like the luggage tote… No offence to owners or lovers of that bag.

Casual. My favorite Celine bag is the nano crossbody, it’s just so cute and unexpected. Also I love Rashida, she’s hilarious on Parks and Rec.

Doll house Boutique Sydney

My daughter and I ordered a dress from Doll House which was to be custom made. I placed the order on a Monday and was surprised to get a phone call the following Monday to say the dress had arrived it only took eight 8 days. I took the dress home and when I put the dress on my daughter, I realised that had just altered the dress (in store) and found pins still in the side seams. I was so disgusted with their lie – when confronted they would not talk to me or acknowledge what they had done. To all you mum’s out there DON’T BUY FROM DOLL HOUSE.
