Jessica Simpson Camping With Her Multicolore Speedy Lives in My Head Rent-Free

What's your favorite pop-culture handbag moment?

Jessica Simpson Multicolore Speedy 2003

The thing that scares me the most about social media is how well, and I mean WELL, it knows me. Yes, I fully understand that’s the whole point. The algorithm’s job is to know your likes and dislikes and what keeps you engaged versus what you swipe away from.

Yet somehow, I am still surprised that I’m served endless French Bulldog content while the gremlin of my very own sits next to me, snoring loudly.

Lately, though, one nostalgic clip after the next from one of my favorite TV shows from the early aughts has been resurfacing on Instagram and TikTok. Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica premiered in 2003, the summer I turned 13.

A Favorite of the Early Aughts

At the time, I was obsessed with both Jessica Simpson and her relationship with Nick. Few things devastated me as much as their divorce, except for maybe Geri Halliwell leaving the Spice Girls or Aaliyah dying in a plane crash the very same day I was on a flight home from the Caribbean with my family, too.

So, when I scrolled past a clip from the show, of course, I stopped to watch. Instantly, I felt like I was a teenager again, but wise enough to finally understand why the pair’s relationship didn’t last. As it should, the algorithm began serving me more and more Newlyweds content, and finally, the moment I was waiting for was, quite literally, at the tip of my fingers.

Pet Louis (Vuitton)

“I don’t know. Is it weird to take my Louis Vuitton bag camping?” Jessica asks while shown pulling a nail file from her Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami Multicolore Speedy. That hilarious moment has lived in my head all these years, as I remember thinking that I, too, would bring my Speedy camping if I had one (I still would).

Simpson, in her Newlyweds era, fueled my fashion obsession. I wanted to dress just like her, and though her bag was entirely out of reach for me, I managed to call a handful of random specialty stores on Long Island to get my hands on a Cheeky brand baseball cap. Mine was pink, not camo, but it would suffice.

Newlyweds went off the air twenty years ago this year, but much of that show remains in the cultural zeitgeist, including Jessica and her LV x TK Speedy. And yes, I still want that bag.

I love that bag too but ultimately decided on the black version. The colors pop a little more on the black MC. I don’t think I ever watched Newlyweds but I was still obsessed with that bag!!

Bought one from ebay for $550 before the pandemic. There were few bids and i waited until the last 10seconds to bid at 4am. Cant decide also between the white or black version. Luckily my mom gave me her black beverly last year. Im not interested anymore in the new release.

I wanted to watch newlyweds, but I was in my first apartment and did not pay for cable! My BFF neighbor had cable so I’d sometimes catch The Hills and Newlyweds at her place 😊

So happy for my LV Speedy Multicolore. Mine is prestine. Don’t care for the new releases at all.

Yes! They feel derivative of the old designs with a crazy price tag.

I still love it too, and would buy one if I could find it!
