These days, it’s become almost customary for brands to look within their archives for inspiration and reinvention, and for Prada, it’s become a routine practice at that. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons further delve into their modern exploration of emblematic House codes, with a continuation on the reflection of humanity and how it is fundamental to the House of Prada. Pragmatic pieces are reinvented, offering new significance and a renewed emphasis on reality. Additionally, the House continues to explore the belief that men and women hold the separation, or lack thereof, between masculinity and femininity within themselves.

Conventionally masculine pieces are transformed for the Fall 2022 collection, titled “An Ideology of Prada,” given feminine touches that feel unexpected but just right at the same time. Coats are carved out at the back or neck, and traditionally flowy, feminine dresses are given a tailored construction, offering up new forms. Each look was a work of art in and of itself, the perfect canvas for an array of bags.

Prada, Reinvented for the Now

Speaking of bags, there were many, and with this collection comes an “investigation of the codifications and meanings evoked through appearance and approach.” The iconic Prada triangle is transformed into a geometric print, appearing on bags throughout the collection in varying colors. There’s a shoulder bag, as well as a small, dual-sided triangular top handle, further exploring Prada’s most recognized emblem. A large portion of the show focused on a top handle bag shown in various colors and two sizes. Some versions appear to have an ombre pattern at the seams, which is reminiscent of the ever-popular Ombre Glace bags from the 2000s (remember those?). There was a simplicity and elegance to the collection as a whole, one that refined the everyday items we need in our closet, allowing them to feel special, yet distinctly Prada all the while.

Nope! Lack of carrying options — I saw no crossbody styles — are a big deficit.

The bag from the first few looks, looks like the result of the Balenciaga city bag and the Givenchy Antigona having a baby. I see nothing new here.

The chartreuse green color is beautiful, but looks like a Chloe party on steroids

The bags are a miss, especially the top handle bag that’s reminiscent of their past failure, the Inside bag. Love the shoes and the voluminous skirts though!
