Do you remember the year 2006? I’d like to think it was just yesterday, but the calendar, my chronic stomach pain, and expensive eye cream tell me otherwise. 2006 was, in fact, nearly two decades ago.
2006 feels both like forever ago and yesterday at the same time. My phone was pink (so was my iPod Mini), and my favorite pair of jeans was from Abercrombie & Fitch. All of my friends carried Coach bags, but my bag of choice was a tiny Dior Saddle Pochette—hey, at least it fit my Dr Pepper–flavored Lip Smacker!
Inside Prada’s Spring 2006 Collection
Reveling in nostalgia is an ironic way to open this post, which is dedicated to Prada’s Spring 2006 collection. How so, you may wonder? Miuccia Prada was quoted as saying, “I wanted to go forward by trying to cancel out nostalgia. By canceling out the body,” when referencing her Spring 2006 collection.

Funny, isn’t it, that twenty years after the collection debuted at Milan Fashion Week, fashion is still as obsessed with the past as ever—myself included.
And so we take a dip into the archives today to look back at this collection, its many frocks (there were lots of them), and the now-vintage bags we might have forgotten.
Suitcases, Bowlers, and the Power of a Vintage Prada Bag
What I vividly remember most about this collection, which I likely viewed on Style.com, was one thing: suitcases! On the runway! Ten years before Chanel’s airport-themed Spring 2016 collection. Not to mention the bowling bags—the many Prada Bowlers.

There were canvas iterations with leather trim bearing the iconic Prada logo, crocodile bowlers with a frame-like closure, nylon options (of course), and more. There’s power in a (vintage) Prada bag, and this collection is worth a revisit. After all, nostalgia hasn’t been canceled…yet.
