When I first started working at PurseBlog, I was enamored by the sheer volume of bags that quite literally came across my desk. I was a broke twenty-something living with two roommates in New York City, and I quite literally couldn’t afford even a quarter of one of those bags.
I yearned for them, dreamt about them, and likely would have bought many of them if I’d had the funds. One style I thought I needed to have? A wicker bag—particularly this Prada one. I imagined myself carrying it on vacation, to a picnic in the park, or while hosting a garden party (none of which I was actually doing).
The Case for Wicker Bags This Summer
Still, years later, wicker bags continue to catch my eye. And while year after year we cover the many raffia bags that reign supreme each season, we’ve never really dedicated the summer novelty bag conversation to wicker.
As we inch closer to the summer solstice, though, there’s no time like the present to unpack this undeniably summer-perfect material. Wicker bags tend to be pretty expensive thanks to their intricate, detailed construction.
Raffia May Rule Summer, but Wicker Deserves Attention Too
Take, for example, the beautiful and rare Hermès Picnic Kelly or Picnic Birkin, both of which will cost you quite a penny on the resale market, or Bottega Veneta’s wicker Sardine bag, which retails for nearly $10,000. Wicker bags, while stylish, also tend to be stiffer and more structured than raffia bags, which helps explain why raffia and crochet remain the more ubiquitous seasonal trends.
Though less widespread, wicker bags are a true novelty, oozing summertime charm and perfectly suited for the warm-weather months. Would you buy a wicker bag for summer, or are you team raffia? Below, we’re taking a look at eight of the best wicker bags for the 2026 season!
BEST OF WICKER

I enjoy the look of some of these bags but the price points are insane. I feel like I am privileged and well off but I would never drop 10K on a wicker bag. I guess this is only for the ultra rich? Have we lost our collective minds? How is this normal to anyone?
Hard agree.
The crazy part is, that bag is more expensive than the Chanel Maxi Flap, which at least made from leather and useful.
I agree with you, and unfortunately the author ignores the fact that there are many less expensive options as well. In summer 2019 I bought a gorgeous wicker bag from Inès de la Fressange at Lafayette Paris. It has held up beautifully and is my go-to summer leisure bag. Price point: 600 Euro.

No they are not novelty with these price tags, they are pure flex. I sometimes see some at club swimming pool with one of these above-mentioned, trotting around in stilettos. Can’t see the novelty nor fun there.
However, to its own merit and credit, wicker bags in its nature ARE indeed all fun and sun. I associate them with famers market and a head scarf and sandals and breeze in the air and maybe a bike ride…. and everything nice and carefree and pretty! The thought of it brings a smile to me.
10k? for something from rattan? No thanks.
I would rather buy the Golden Girls living room set for that price.

Love this comment!
If I bought a wicker bag at one of those prices, I’d feel like an idiot. Wicker and Raffia are meant to be sweet summer bags that you buy at an outdoor market, not a Chanel flap!! Lordy, I buy Chanel bags, but this is starting to look like eat the rich.
also, can you even repair wicker? A Chanel flap you can at least send for cleaning and repair pretty easily. Wicker is so fragile.
I picked up some wicker bags in St. Barts really cheap and the Sa gave me a couple of free bags. A little vintage shop towards the end of the shopping strip.
Whoa on the prices, but I can’t help but really like the Chloe Tropicus bucket bag and the Miu Miu Aventure (I’d rather this in leather). The Chloe is so adorable.
Quality rattan is braided by hand, which is labor intensive. LV currently has the Alma BB in wicker trimmed in ostrich for $8850. It’s adorable I have to say. To me, it would be a sound investment piece but I understand the sticker shock too.
Unless it’s a misprint the Judith Leiber one is a steal at $995. No wonder it says not available at the link.
Bottega is unserious and wildin. 10k? What do they really think of consumers?
