If you’re a lover of Chanel bags, or really, luxury bags in general, one thing is certain: Handbag prices will rise.
Few price increases have been as widely discussed as those at Chanel. In years past, price increases were smaller and less noticeable. Still, the post-pandemic luxury fashion boom (plus the accounting for rising production and labor costs, supposedly) really made us feel the weight of the added cost of Chanel bags.
Record-Breaking Increases in 2021
At one time, Chanel increased its bag prices by up to 15%—and 2021 was one of the most historic years, when Chanel implemented not one, not two, but three major price increases. In just one year, the Chanel Classic 11.12 increased in price from $6,500 to $8,800. That same bag will now cost you $11,300.
Yikes.
Imagine the surprise of Chanel collectors everywhere when Chanel’s chief financial officer, Philippe Blondiaux, promised some relief for consumers. While Chanel wouldn’t be lowering its prices anytime soon, Blondiaux stated that it would be dialing back on its pricing strategy.

Still, we saw an increase earlier this year, with Classic bags increasing by $500, and others mainly seeing small increases of around 4.5%. Somehow, the Chanel 25 bag, the brand’s latest must-have, remained untouched until now.
2025 Updates: the New Chanel 25 Prices
While many of us thought we could get through the year without any other major increases, Chanel quietly increased the price of its 25 bags just as the cruise collection was hitting boutiques. With it came the launch of the Chanel Mini 25 (*swoon*).
So what’s the damage? A $300–$400 increase across the board, with the largest size hitting the $7K mark, retailing for $7,300 from its debut price of $6,900. See all of the new prices below!
| Chanel 25 Bags | New Price | Old Price | % Increase |

She can keep them too I will stay with Vintage.. those prices are ridiculous!
The Chanel jumbo 2.55 was gifted to me about 15 years ago. The tag was tucked in the bag intentionally in case I didn’t care for it and it was $4800. The current market value is $10,000. However, I tried to sell it once to Fashionphile and they wouldn’t even take it. I would never have TheRealReal take custody of my bag before sale. And I honestly doubt anyone would pay that money on Poshmark. That being said it makes me curious who is coming out with these figures of current market value. Sounds an awful lot like a campaign Chanel would launch to encourage you to buy a current new bag because one day it will grow in value. It’s not a house. I don’t think it works that way.
Vintage prices have been wild lately. It’s greed everywhere at this point
So glad I am out of this game.
Even when you have the money to spend, there comes a price where the consumer just says no. I wonder if that will ever happen here?
Chanel just wants more profit.
The wealthy keep getting wealthier so these prices are in line with the financial gains of these past few years. Working families and middle class families are, however, struggling more and more thanks in part to inflation and tariffs. People can’t afford to house themselves, buy a new car, groceries, etc… even people who make decent money. The economic outlook is more and more defined by growing disparities. Someone may have been able to afford a Chanel bag ten years ago and it may be totally out of reach today.
Given that they have already done the math on the cost of the leather and the hardware and the manpower to make this bag, and nothing is changing in any of those (I doubt if the price increase is going to give anyone a raise) honestly asking what exactly justifies raising the price of this bag? Did they introduce it at a lower price because they weren’t sure how the public would take it? And now that it’s proven to be popular, they’re having an oh shit moment and raising the cost of it? I think the burden of that mistake should be on them and not the client. If you sell your house at a low price because you want to sell it and the new buyer sells it a year later at a 20% price increase, you don’t get that 20%. That’s just what happens. I feel the same here. This bag should be the price and that should be that
Chanel is a joke, I hope their greedy strategy blows up in their face. I’d rather have a really nice vacation (or several) than then oversaturated “classic” flap.
Or better yet, invest that money in a low cost ETF. Don’t touch it for several decades. Your future self will GREATLY thank you.
Given the enormous amount of decent fakes I see of this bag all over town the price increase is pretty irrelevant. It’s sad because in my opinion this is the best style Chanel has come out with in a really long time. I won’t be indulging in fake or real.
This bag will be buried next to the 19 a year or two from now.
And the 22 a couple years later
I actually prefer the 19.
This cargo pants purse is not justified in a price increase but I guess we’ll see what the sales #s have to say about it.
It seems like a casual day bag, it doesn’t to me seem like a bag that I would take out to a dinner. My point is it’s not very versatile. There are other styles that can go from day to evening a lot better. And if you’re going to pay that price, you better pick a color and a size and a shape that won’t make you think twice when you’re going out the door with it.
That’s exactly what it looks like
The “cargo pants purse” baaaa love it
NOT THE CARGO PANTS PURSE! *cackles
I do love my Chanel bags. The only bags that I would consider purchasing at this point would be the classics, since I already have a few I doubt I will purchase another Chanel. Chanel would have to come out with something truly remarkable, doesn’t seem like any style but the proven classics will be around in 5 years.
Just saw many of these on vacation in SoCal and no, they looked tired and tiring and awkward. Didn’t fit the resort vibe, not quite commute, absolutely not dinner (all I saw were black with gold chain and pretty big, maybe other color ways and sizes present themselves better?) But anyway, it feels not right. Maybe it’s that only certain crowd can afford them but the aesthetics were created for a different set. (the model who were in the advert did look good with them)
