Today we celebrate our 10th Annual National Handbag Day the best way we know how: by asking you all to carry a bag you love and be happy doing so! For over 18 years, we’ve run this website, and for over 10 years, we’ve celebrated National Handbag Day. There are so many reasons we love bags, but one of the most important aspects of bags is the joy they can bring us in our lives.
This shared joy has turned into countless friendships over the years via our community at the PurseForum, small chats with people around the world complimenting one another on our bags, all the while our bags carrying some of our most precious items. My bags carried sonogram images of our kids, life-saving medication, snacks, a sentimental note from my daughter, and much more.
Some people may tell us that our love for bags seems silly, but I will always share how important they’ve been for me, including this handbag-loving journey I’ve been lucky to share with you all. Our lives can feel heavy, and we are all dealing with personal hardships daily, so having something that brings brevity and enjoyment and makes us feel special is a good thing. And handbags have been that.
If you asked me 18 years ago, when I was in my college dorm room, that this little site we started with $7.99 and no real plan would become what it is now, I would laugh at you. But here we are, loving every aspect of our work lives, feeling lucky and blessed that this is our journey, and endlessly happy to connect with all of you on this shared passion.
So today, pick your favorite bag and carry it with a big smile! Be sure to tag us on social media so we can repost pictures, and use the hashtag #NationalHandbagDay. And thank you all for being part of this handbag journey with us; how lucky are we all?!
i was carrying the exact bag from the photo accompanying your story before I even saw your post. It’s a great hands free bag for shopping trips.
Happy Handbag Day everyone!
sad mom story- in the past I’ve used this new holiday as an excuse to buy a new bag, but this year I couldn’t justify it so I bought my kid a (much needed) new backpack. Does that count?
That is a lovely mom story!! Our lives and spending changes for our kids, but I do look forward to a year in the future when it can be for you again!
I bought my first Chanel classic flap on this day two years ago!
