While the word iconic is thrown around more lackadaisically than it should be, only a select few bags have earned the iconic title in the bag world. The Louis Vuitton Speedy is one of them, and I know you will agree.
First introduced in 1930, the Speedy is a timeless classic in the handbag world, with decades of innovation and updates, while the overall design remains essentially the same.
When Pharrell Williams joined the House as the Men’s Creative Director, one of his first major design releases was one of the most coveted revamps ever. The Louis Vuitton Speedy P9 fuses timeless heritage with a contemporary spin to give a fresh take on the iconic design.
What Makes the P9 Different?
The main feature that differentiates the P9 is the ultrasoft calfskin and the interior lambskin lining. This bag is smooth and luscious in every way. Many customers loved the Speedy’s shape but wanted to see the bag in leather, and Pharrell gave them what they were looking for in the most luxurious, tactile manner.
The P9’s name comes from Pont-Neuf, Paris’s oldest bridge. It also plays on the letter ‘P’ for Pharrell. In fact, on the plaque on the interior of each bag, there is a quote from Pharrell that reads, “The sun is shining on us.”
Indeed, it is!
The Speedy P9 in Detail
The Speedy P9 family is now vast. Many sizes, colors, and seasonal releases are expanding this already elusive and coveted family of bags. For SS25, the P9 is offered in fluo colorways, as we’ve pictured.
After having four of these bags in person, I can share the details that set this bag apart.
The most notable is the calfskin body and lambskin lining—one softer and more malleable than the next. The detailing on this bag is amped up, with a heritage side lock on one side of each bag. Additionally, a commemorative plaque can be found in each bag (which probably adds some heft; more on that shortly), adding a special touch.
Each bag is made of thick, full-body leather, so it is heavier than its canvas Speedy counterpart. The adjustable and removable shoulder strap helps with the weight, especially in the smaller sizes. The interior, fully lined in lambskin, also offers pockets for storage.
I noted the bag’s weight previously and would be remiss not to mention it again. The P9 is heavy. The 25 cm is 1.75 lbs, and the 50cm is 5.25 lbs (both without the strap). This bag falls into the men’s category, but is being carried by everyone. I like my typical daily carry to be lighter, but I find the 25 cm comfortable when using the shoulder strap.
I must give attention to the incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail on this line of bags. While quality continues to be a big talking point in the luxury space, seeing these bags in person will change your perception. Over photos, it looks like a Speedy but in leather; however, when you are up close with these bags, the true meticulous nature and excellence of the House show through.

Celebrities with the Speedy P9
The Speedy P9 quickly made its way onto the arms of celebrities. It’s been a favorite, from athletes arriving at stadiums to the Met Gala Red Carpet. Don’t get too excited by seeing the Nano Speedy P9 just yet. Louis Vuitton confirmed that this and the others from the Met Gala were one-of-a-kind and will not be produced. But here’s to hoping!
