Our Ultimate Bag Guides series is where we highlight all the need-to-know information (prices, size comparisons, colors and availability, among other salient details) of the high-end accessories market’s most sought-after bags, and today, we’re adding an absolute classic to that list: the Louis Vuitton Speedy Bag. First conceptualized in the early 1930s as Vuitton’s first bag intended for daily carry, the bag was based on another LV classic: the Keepall.

The Speedy was first introduced in the 30 size (Louis Vuitton’s numerical size names refer to the width of the bag’s front panel in centimeters), and the smaller 25 was added in 1959 at the request of actress Audrey Hepburn. Fast forward to 2016 and the bag comes in four numerical sizes and a super-tiny version known as the Nano. To get price and size info, as well as photo comparisons and all the other details you could need to decide which Speedy you want, check out our guide below.

There seems to be much less entries/content lately. Also they are not as interesting and on top of that there’s one about shoes every day. What’s going on? 🙁
I would love to see more purseonals!

We’re still doing the same amount every day we’ve been doing for a while! If there’s anything beyond Purseonals you miss, let us know! We always appreciate suggestions. (And we’re working on more Purseonals!)

Really? Maybe I’m just whining because I’m not excited by the bags featured lately. I love purseonals, the many bags of, and the one where you featured people from different companies. Love seeing what non-celebs carry as much as I enjoy celeb stuff. I have zero interest in shoes, but I’m likely the minority here. I would kill to see the PB team’s bag collections!! ????
Also, I like the current format just fine, not sure what’s not to like. Thanks for listening! ????

I know what you mean. I don’t like it that TalkShoes and PurseBlog were merged. I can understand why it was done, but IMO, it’s diluted the PurseBlog brand rather than strengthen it. I sigh every time I click on this site and the new post is about shoes. That’s not why I come here (if shoes are now such an important part of this site, then change the name to reflect it). I would also like to see some signposting to the most active and/or most unusual PurseForum threads of the week. I like the PurseForum roundups very much, of course, and I think it would be interesting to leverage the forum more here. But only threads about bags, not shoes or jewelry or food or…
But getting back to the Speedy, in Europe, the LV site only shows the Speedy 30 in Empreinte. Not the 25. The 2010 limited edition Fleur de Jais Speedy 30 is still highly sought after here and commands a premium price.

Wow, funny that this topic just popped up in a Speedy thread (which I loved). I haven’t been crazy about the new format either, I just thought that I was an old fogey, unwilling to go with what’s new (but really, that isn’t me!). Maybe you could have a flashback to an older format one day and get comments from readers. I still LOVE the Purse Blog/forum, but I liked some of the older formats more.

Do you mean you like the old site layout better?

Change doesn’t always work for everyone! Let me know what you’re missing and we can see if we can bring any of it back 🙂

My 2 cents. I like handbags. I have stopped coming here as much because there are so many posts on shoes and makeup. I’m not interested in another accessories / fashion blog. Those are a dime a dozen. I want multiple, indepth posts on handbags.

More on quality construction would be nice. Cost doesn’t necessarily equate to quality.

I also would like like to see more brands covered. What about new handbags by Bvlgari, Versace or even Dooney & Bourke??? I feel that if you stuck to handbags we would see more from brands that aren’t necessarily the darlings but still have interesting offerings now and again.

I love the bags+shoes matching ones, because it really helps me find ideas to match my own, but not the shoes alone.

Loved the what’s in her bag feature. Bring more back. Also would love to see more on themed bags-best bags to take on vacation; bags for the boardroom; bags for the working woman on the go; bags for college; bags for grad school….I do really value your honest reviews of bags????

Agree. It hasn’t been the same at all since they changed the over all format a while back.
I miss it.

I think they mean when Vlad put in the new webpage layout…
Btw, the new layout does look sharp but it feels more editorial…I kinda miss the feel from ’07 when things were a bit more grassroots…however kudos on the success. Clearly I’ve been a long time reader. 😉

That’s when the theme was pink and had the dancing lady in the header right?! Can’t believe we’ve been around so long!

It’s strange to me that I never bought a Speedy. I like LV and have several, but I’ve never been drawn to this particular bag, perhaps because so many girls at my undergraduate college carried them. (Old, prestigious private liberal arts college in New England, where a lot of the students came from old money. The Speedy thus always seemed a bit snobby and yet collegiate to me.) Now that I’m older and more attracted to smaller bags, though, I’m giving the Speedy a second look. Backwards, I know. I do think I would need a base shaper and/or purse organizer if I were to use this bag, however.

My very first designer handbag was a Speedy 25. I bought it in college and it was only $365 then!

The nano is so cute!! I could definitely see myself wearing the nano. It’s saddening to see that a lot of people don’t want to get the speedy because so many people possess it. Personally, I have bipolar feelings on the speedy because of the same reason. Although it’s a classic and I admire its history, I don’t think I will get the classic speedy 30 because I see everyone else wearing it.

Don’t think about who wears it!! If you really like it you should get it. I consider myself a classy person, and I like speedys. I also have seen tacky people rocking chanels and hermes bags. Its all about who wear the stuff and how they wear it! I think the speedy is a lovely bag and I own one in 30 in each damier print. My favorite LV bag is my mono neverfull MM though. Its so comfy and practically indestructible!

I have never been a fan of the monogram LV (or anything LV in general, I find it tacky and “basic”..cue the Starbucks PSL & classic Uggs) I also find it absolutely insane that people are willing to pay 1k+ for CANVAS. It’s a scam to charge that much for something that isn’t even leather, especially when the cost to make this bag is practically nothing (Also: Goyard). It’s free advertising for them, and their logos are UGLY. Not only are you walking around showing off that you have $1,000 to waste, but you’re actually carrying around a hideous bag. I find it hard to believe that anyone actually LIKES their monograms and aren’t only carrying it for the status.

I’m also not a fan of the monogram LV except for the delightful, which I feel looks good in that style. Other than that I would opt for the plain colored epi leather version of this bag. I realized I don’t like carrying bags that scream out their logos everywhere.

Hey I would pick Goyard over LV any day of the week. My mention of Goyard was in reference to the outrageous pricing of their canvas totes. I don’t consider Goyard tacky like LV.

I know many truly lovely people who adore this bag. But, you had me on the floor with the Starbucks / Uggs comment. ???????? YES!!! Honestly, you said everything I’ve always thought. I hate this bag. It’s just tacky. It’s not a neutral. It’s not attractive. It’s not stylish. It’s tragic. It’s had its 5 minutes. Move on.

Yeah the canvas is kind of tacky, but it’s a wonderful purse! You can get it without the monogram. Plus, it will last for your whole life and it’s very light! I have bags from a lot of brands (Chanel, Prada, MiuMiu, Fendi, Givenchy, Mulberry, Balenciaga, Coach, Alexander Wang…they are all pretty heavy) but I still think that the speedy is my favorite!

I can agree that canvas is great, long lasting and light. I have zero problem with canvas bags but they should be priced accordingly. I could maybe consider this bag if it were available without the monogram (or damier) and in a solid color that isn’t ugly brown and didn’t cost over $1,000. I own alot of other designer bags in leather (celine, prada, givenchy, etc etc) that I could justify spending the money on, I just can’t get on board with this LV (or any of their other monogramed/damier bags).

I have to disagree. I bought the Trevi PM in Damier Ebene a few years ago and it’s a beautifully made bag in a relatively complicated shape. It has held up flawlessly and I still get many (unsolicited) compliments on it. LV has discontinued the style, but I’ll be happily carrying it years from now. It cost me $1500 in 2012 and IMO the money was well spent. I too have many designer bags in leather (Fendi, Prada, Bottega Veneta etc etc) but the Trevi remains one of my favorites.
