I love black. When I was five years old, I told the school guidance counselor at kindergarten orientation that black was my favorite color, and she became concerned. When all the other little girls on the playground had little white Keds, I had little black Keds. Even as an adult, my wardrobe is mostly black, and wearing anything brown or tan in particular makes me feel like I’m dressing up in someone else’s clothes. That’s always been a bit of an impediment to me becoming a full-fledged Louis Vuitton stan; the brand’s famous Monogram and Damier canvases are both brown-based. Vuitton has a perfectly good black version of its most famous print in black and gray, though, but there’s a catch: Monogram Eclipse, as its called, is a relatively new creation and reserved only for men’s bags. I’m here to impotently demand that it make the jump to the women’s line, too.
I’ve idly hoped Monogram Eclipse would expand its presence to the brand’s women’s line since the material debuted several years ago during one of LV’s men’s runway shows, but until I saw one of you mention your hope for the prospect in the comments of another post, I hadn’t realized exactly how badly I wanted it to happen. That prompted Megs also to chime in with how much she’d like women’s bags in Monogram Eclipse, and suddenly, I felt emboldened: why can’t we have black Louis Vuitton monogram in more feminine styles?
So Louis Vuitton, if you’re reading this (and I know you’re reading this): please consider throwing the brown-averse among us a bone. And if you’re not Louis Vuitton, but rather one of our regular readers who’s not yet acquainted with Monogram Eclipse, you can check out a dozen great bags and small leather goods in the fabric below. They’re all from the men’s collection, but really, why do bags need a gender?
