Louis Vuitton’s iconic Capucines bag was first released in 2013. Since then, it has become a staple for the Maison, reimagined season after season in countless iterations. Named after Rue des Capucines, the Parisian Street on which Louis Vuitton’s first store was opened, the Capucines has become a timeless feminine classic with a contemporary finish.
Further enhancing the Capucines, Louis Vuitton’s special seasonal capsule called the Artycapucines Collection allows artists from around the world to put their own unique, limited-edition spin on the Capucines. This year, a new charitable element is added in collaboration with art and luxury auction house Sotheby’s.
Artycapucines Gives Back
From June 28th through July 12th, a dedicated auction is taking place featuring 22 rare and uniquely designed Louis Vuitton Artycapucines bags. Each bag showcases Louis Vuitton’s storied savoir-faire, combined with a contemporary spin exclusive to each artist. The extremely limited editions of these Artycapucines bags are remade and signed. Each is a one-off piece, crafted with the same exceptional materials and savoir-faire as the original limited-edition versions. To finish it off, each version of the Artcapucines is presented in a Monogram Louis Vuitton Boîte Chapea.
A Commitment to the Arts
The Artycapucines collection was first launched in 2019, and it continues the Maison’s unique relationship to the arts and its spirit of collaboration. This collaborative spirit dates back to nearly a century ago when Gaston-Louis Vuitton began commissioning artists to create store windows and art for the Maison’s boutiques.
This special auction, in partnership with Louis Vuitton, is a first for Sotheby’s Handbags & Accessories department, fitting in perfectly with its commitment to supporting emerging and independent artists and designers. The auction is currently ongoing through July 12th, benefitting a diverse array of charities. Discover more and bid now via Sotheby’s.
