Loro Piana has always been the elite option for superb, high-quality luxury basics, but in the last few years, it has catapulted to wider popularity. Quietly thriving in the shadows for decades, its 2013 acquisition by LVMH helped Loro Piana begin to gain mainstream recognition.
Couple its LVMH backing with the fashion scene’s ongoing infatuation with stealth wealth and the old-money aesthetic that Loro Piana so perfectly encapsulates, and you’ve got an undeniable signifier of wealth and class.
Why Loro Piana Defines Quiet Luxury
The brand’s ready-to-wear has been beloved for its impeccable materials and unmatched quality for over 100 years, and its bags echo a similar sentiment, quickly becoming a go-to choice for understated luxury. Now, Loro Piana expands its offerings once again, returning to its roots and one of its best sellers—the Extra Bag.

Meet the Extra Softy Bag
The smallest version of the bag catapulted to popularity back in the summer of 2023, and three years later, the Extra love is still going strong. This season Loro Piana presents a softened, more relaxed version of the beloved bag, designed to be worn from day to night.
Dubbed the Extra Softy Bag, this slouchy iteration of the fan favorite combines clean lines and understated elegance with an elongated, functional shape. Designed with versatility in mind, its strap is fully detachable and adjustable, allowing for shoulder, crossbody, or top-handle wear.
Sizes, Materials, and Pricing
Introduced in two sizes, the L33 and L44, the Extra Softy is defined by distinct details such as its vintage-style leather keyring and signature Ghiera charm. Simple yet chic, the buttery-soft leather and impeccable craftsmanship speak for themselves.
The L33, in leather, arrives in four beautiful neutral hues—Fossil, Ancient Sandstone, Dark Chocolate Licorice, and Baby Cashmere—along with novelty iterations in cashmere and silk. The L44 stuns in woven leather and smooth silk. Discover the range now via Loro Piana.

Is this brand really worth the money? I see their clothing on department store websites and the pricing is outrageous. They want $2000.00 for a t-shirt. I believe you get what you pay for to some extent but….
they basically bought a small village to exploit the labour and wool production there. they are amongst the most evil brands in fashion and have no reason to ask for those prices. especially seeing on how many levels modern slave labour is involved.
Absolutely not worth the money. They were in trouble with Italian lawmakers for poor labor practices including exploitation of workers. Stealth-wealth indeed 🙂
I’ve seen Loro Piana in person and tried the bag. The hype, the price tag, and the quality don’t go together. For me, the quality warrants a Tory Burch price tag.
Remember all these luxury brands are owned by the same few companies. They create different brand images because they will get your money one way or another.
Even the normal one still look like a souvenir bag, now that $7,100 looks like a soft toolbox.
Agree. I don’t understand the side zipper access. How do you even grab things from the bag or place things in without having to place it down and use both hands to unzip?
Looks like a makeup bag – would toss eyeshadow in this but definitely would feel ridiculous carrying it as a handbag 🤷🏻♀️
LP is most known for its wools and outstanding fabrics. IMO, their bags are not really their specialty and I’ve heard terrible opinions about the wear-and-tear.
I saw the softy 33 in person in store 2 days ago and I thought it was hideous. The silhouette did not work for me at all. It looked awkward however you carried it, shoulder, crossbody or handheld.
In my humble opinion, the L19 extra pocket, L27 extra pocket (not extra bag), the L29 extra clutch, the Ghiera, and the Bale (in the small and mini) are the only bags worth buying from the brand.
This bag has no appeal. I do like the LP Loom 25 bag but don’t think it’s worth the price. I’d rather get the small version of my YSL Jamie 4.3 shopping bag. FWIW, some years ago a friend bought an LP bag and it started to show significant signs of wear after 6 months. She stopped carrying it.
