Loewe’s Latest Collaboration Celebrates the Art of Weaving

The perfect art meets fashion partnership...

Loewe is one of the handbag brands that tends to fly slightly under the radar, more than some of its other premium designer counterparts. Known for its stylish, yet unique silhouettes and a favorite of those in the know, designer Jonathon Anderson consistently wows us with his beautiful designs that are as stunning as they are expertly crafted. One thing that consistently shines when it comes to Loewe bags is the brand’s commitment to its craft and eye for the details.

The brand’s latest collaboration is an ode to that core brand DNA, celebrating the art of weaving and reinforcing Loewe’s commitment to artisanal craftsmanship. Loewe x Sotheby’s is a unique partnership that features a variety of eccentric, artisan crafted objects. The collaboration includes woven bags, baskets, accessories and more, expanding upon the idea of weaving as not only a decorative craft, but also as a way of building structure.

Pieces From Loewe Weaves Up for Auction at Sotheby’s

The first part of the partnership calls upon different artists who’ve embellished Galician chestnut roasters that showcase experimental weaving techniques. A chestnut roaster is a handmade clay pot that has holes punctured in it and these holes are used to showcase the decorative weaving techniques of each individual artist. There are 7 designs available to purchase at auction via Sotheby’s and all are also on display at Sotheby’s New York now through May 12th.

The second part of the LOEWE Weaves collaboration is a collection of reimagined iconic Loewe pieces that bring the same concept to Loewe’s accessories. Once again showcasing various intricate woven techniques, this collection features a stunning new iteration of the Balloon bag that is truly a work of art. Various other woven leather and raffia accessories that are rich in artisanal details are included as well. The pieces will be available in store and on loewe.com beginning May 27.
