JW Anderson’s Spring 2025 Runway Focuses on Its New House Icon

A new cult-favorite secured.

Jonathan Anderson’s namesake label, JW Anderson, first received critical acclaim for its contributions to the menswear world. The designer eventually expanded into womenswear, and in 2013, LVMH purchased a stake in the company while simultaneously appointing JW Anderson as creative director at LOEWE. The label grew exponentially with support from its powerhouse parent company, eventually expanding its product categories.

What remains at the forefront of the label’s DNA is its innovative, modern appeal and the notion that there is no one-size-fits-all in fashion. Pieces are wearable but distinctly different, featuring nods to British Heritage—an ode to the brand’s London-based headquarters.

Over the years, the designer has churned out a handful of coveted, cult-favorite designs. While the label is widely known in the fashion world, it still possesses the charm and if you know, you know factor of an independent label. From the late 2010s Pierce Bag (the one that put Anderson’s bags on the map) to the Bumper Bag, which ruled the early 2020s, JW Anderson continues to focus on introducing new and exciting silhouettes.

While other brands focus on large assortments, JW Anderson carefully conceptualizes a shape that is innovative and cool enough to reign for seasons, introducing it in various sizes and colors. On the heels of the Bumper Bag’s success, the latest House icon hits the runway for Spring 2025.

The Loafer Bag Takes Over

The collection as a whole featured a parade of mini dresses, some with sporty details and others with voluminous details and asymmetrical proportions. The cohesiveness of the collection was marked by the bag carried throughout, the one and only silhouette seen on the runway: the Loafer bag.

Introduced first during Men’s Fashion Week, the Spring 2025 women’s show further cements the bag’s popularity. True to its name, the bag is inspired by the classic penny loafer. Bags feature an oversized iteration of the whale-tail penny keeper that defines the classic penny loafer.

On the runway, the new shape was toted in smooth leather neutrals like black, cognac, and brat green alongside soft suede versions of olive green and navy blue. Like the menswear show, the omnipresence of the Loafer bag on the runway indicates how vital this new shape will be next year.

Wait… but these are actually a fresh take. To do a new motif that keeps with the brand’s DNA (preppy/nautical/clean), on a rarer silhouette, and to have done it without doing the usual approach of a “hardware reboot”… Nice going JW. *slow clap*

The leather on these bags looks gorgeous!

JWA is looking for the experience and craftsmanship of working leather, looking for how it does with Loewe.
