Jonathan Anderson’s eponymous label, JW Anderson, first garnered critical attention for its impact on menswear. The brand later expanded into womenswear, and in 2013, LVMH acquired a minority stake while appointing Anderson as creative director of LOEWE. With the backing of a powerhouse luxury conglomerate, the label experienced rapid growth, expanding across multiple product categories.
JW Anderson’s Rise in Modern Luxury
At its core, JW Anderson is defined by Anderson’s innovative vision and singular design aesthetic. The brand balances wearability with distinctiveness, often incorporating subtle references to British heritage—a reflection of its London roots. Anderson’s creativity continues to capture the attention of the fashion world, with select pieces developing a cult-like following, particularly the brand’s bags.
The Loafer bag, which debuted for Spring 2025, fully encapsulates the JW Anderson ethos. Both functional and experimental, the design features a whale-tail penny keeper detail borrowed directly from traditional loafers—hence the name. Further reinforcing the reference, the bag’s base is sculpted to mimic the sole of the shoe.
A Distinct Design Language
While Anderson’s popularity remains somewhat niche, it’s impossible to ignore—especially during fashion month. His bags are regularly spotted on style insiders in cities like Paris and New York, and just last week, while out with a friend, I caught sight of a green version of the Loafer bag. It instantly transported me back to the love I felt when it first appeared on the runway.
It’s just so cool. I felt a similar pull toward the brand’s Bumper bag, which I eventually snagged after admiring it for several seasons. The Loafer bag is giving me that same sense of longing—under-the-radar, deeply covetable, and very, if you know, you know.
I always have a running list of bags I’m lusting after, but the Loafer bag is quickly climbing back to the top. Between its It-girl appeal and relative affordability amid ever-rising luxury prices, it feels like a standout worth investing in.

I like the bag but the shoulder strap is just too thin and flimsy. It’s not a tiny bag; when fully loaded it needs a sturdier strap.
