Jacquemus Gives Its Fan-Favorite Bag a Pillowy Makeover

Earlier this week new bags hit the runway during LE RAPHIA, the brand's Spring/Summer 2023 show

If there’s one thing you can expect from the experimental French label Jacquemus, it’s a shock value. That’s exactly what designer Simon Porte Jacquemus gave us earlier this week when he slyly posted a heart-attack-inducing statement to Instagram. It said, “Dear all, the show of tomorrow will be my last one,” with a swipe to the second part of the statement that read “of the year!” It was a tongue-in-cheek way to build excitement for this upcoming show in Paris, and of course, it worked.

LE RAPHIA

Transformed into an idyllic vision of summer, the Le Bourget airport was the backdrop for the Jacquemus Spring/Summer 2023 collection, dubbed Le Raphia. And yes, true to its name, there was plenty of raffia and summer-ready silhouettes. Bright summery hues like ecru, sunshiney yellow, pink, orange, and purple will leave you wanting to take a trip to the beach. Particularly the South of France or Capri, which Porte Jacquemus told Vogue inspired the collection in part.

“This one, he said, was inspired by “girls you imagine in Portofino and Capri, going around with their hats and earrings and polkadot pants. – Simon Porte Jacquemus to Vogue

A New Chapter for Jacquemus

As for the bags, this collection marks a new, albeit practical, direction for the brand. While yes, some of the brand’s infamous shock-inducing petites made the rounds, it was the newness that really stole the show. The fan-favorite Le Bambino got a pillowy, padded makeover, appearing in an array of summer-ready hues. While in the past, the brand has been known for its experimental ideology and knack for playing with outlandish proportions, the bags in this collection feel the most wearable. There are a variety of sleek and functional carryalls in Le Raphia, effortlessly fulfilling that stylish “if you know, you know” factor.” Discover more via Jaquemus.
