If I were to happily accept the title of nerd, it would be related to my knowledge of (and intrigue toward) fashion history. I got my bachelor’s degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and one of my favorite classes was Intro to Fashion.
In that freshman-year class and others I took along the way, we learned the fascinating histories of most of today’s popular brands. Diving into each brand’s unique (often humble) beginnings offers a different appreciation for the luxury bags we all know and love.
While I love fashion for the creative outlet it gives and the joy it brings to my life (look good, feel good), a massive part of why I love certain brands is the deep roots and DNA that lie within them. Often, a brand’s logo tells a big part of that story, and while I definitely go through phases of how often I wear them, I will always love a logo.
A Very Logo’d Summer
The Gucci logo holds significance for me. I had a particular love affair with Tom Ford-era Gucci, which I attribute to his designs being some of my earliest fashion memories. I was 14 when Tom Ford departed the House of Gucci, and by then, my walls had been plastered with his ad campaigns for a couple of years.
I’d been looking for a vintage Tom Ford-era Gucci bag for a while, finally snagging the perfect little number earlier this spring. Maybe it was that hint of nostalgia for a bygone era and my earliest days of falling in love with fashion, but this summer, my logo era has had a massive renaissance.
I’ve been using my logo bags more than ever, leading my eye toward new silhouettes, too. When I saw Megs post about her Gucci Totissima Tote, I immediately fell in love with the Rosso Ancora version it was offered in as well. Of course, my needs are vastly different as I don’t have children, and I live in a walking city.
Then I discovered this GG Super Mini Shoulder Bag, which also comes in the same GG Rosso Ancora Canavs, and I gave it a second, okay, and a third look. As its name describes, this bag is mini, but it works well for my needs as I don’t carry a lot of stuff daily.
What really draws me in is the bag’s simple shape, offering hints of both contemporary and classic Gucci (I also love a shoulder bag lately). Bags that strike an ideal balance of modern with a vintage vibe tend to be the ones I gravitate towards most, and this one simply does it for me.
Which logo bags have you been eyeing?
$1,400 for that. hahahaha
Gucci must think we are all idiots at this point. It’s a turn off when the price point and the actual item are sooo disparate. I don’t mind spending a lot of money on a bag… but definitely not this one!
How about Louis Vuitton???
I agree with you that Louis Vuitton is also overpriced like every luxury brand. But at least, my LV products have not fallen apart like my Gucci ones have.
Ikr?! My first thought! AND it’s cloth!!!
Yeah and that GG cloth frays pretty easily. That’s why I prefer the GG coated canvas.
It does, indeed! You have to wear it a lot for it to do that, but the uncoated canvas will eventually bald out on you!
Yes! And those corners will show wear quickly in my experience. 😕
Good to know!
I love the color. I’ve always been drawn to burgundy bags.
I know! The color is SO good. It’s what got me.
Cute, but not for $1400. Looks exactly like the Bottega Mini Wallace which I admittedly love, but prefer because at least it’s leather.
So true!
I understand where the others commenting are coming from but I still like the bag. It is simple and hopefully durable and color is great! I guess I am jaded by crazy prices for anything luxury these days because $1400.00 seems cheap!
I know it’s kinda crazy! Anything with a one in front of it, I immediately think, “Not that bad.” We are all jaded is right!
Think about it. This bag probably takes 6 minutes to assemble.
I love this shape. I love the Coach logo jacquard, and I would immediately buy this bag if they copied this! The gucci is great but $1400 is a little much. If coach could take a 0 off, I’d be all over it!
Try the coach outlet: they often copy designer bags and it’s usually in their logo pattern.
I don’t know about the bag – I think I agree with the other commenters that a Coach outlet pouch would give the same look at a 1/100th the price. But those shoes! They are so cute – all the straps!
I actually love this silhouette and even the color! The shape is so nostalgic, almost ’90s to mid 2000s styled. The time when my friend’s mom had a Gucci bag that looked just like this that I would lust after every time I saw her wearing it.
I completely agree with you—it’s so reminiscent of vintage Gucci that it makes me nostalgic for my youth when I first fell in love with bags!
