I don’t know about the rest of you all, but my bag buying process differs from purchase to purchase. Sometimes I see a specific bag I want (aka must have) and budget for that particular style. Other times I make a general decision that it’s time for a new bag. Whether that be because I feel a void in my closet or simply because my budget allows it, a general realization means the ways in which I shop for a bag are more complex than simply falling in love with a particular style.
If I’ve noticed a void in my collection (say a lack of neutral bags or a certain shape) I’ll narrow my search down that way, but if I’ve simply decided I’m ready for a new bag and don’t know what I want, I’ll typically start by looking at the brands I tend to favor. Currently that’s Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior and Bottega Veneta. I will often expand my search just to get a true feel for what’s on the market before I pull the trigger on a bag.
Admittedly, there are certain brands that I tend to overlook and Ferragamo happens to be one of those brands. A storied Italian brand with incredibly historic roots, Ferragamo is known for its quality and craftsmanship. When I think of Ferragamo I think of its iconic shoes first, but of course Ferragamo’s bags are of equal caliber and recently one of its last silhouette’s under the direction of designer Paul Andrew caught my eye.
This season, the brand’s Trifolio line is expanded upon with the addition of a new member, the Trifolio Shoulder Bag, which combines a minimal aesthetic with feminine twists. Clean lines and a geometric shape are made complete by the iconic gold Ferragamo Gancini clasp which appears in a muted, antique finish. This immediately identifiable emblem was inspired by the iron gates of Palazzo Spini Feroni in Florence, and was first used over half a century ago.
As for the leather, the bag is crafted from soft calfskin with a matte finish and my eye was immediately drawn to the lilac version (of course!). The interior is small, but mighty, organized with two compartments, a central zippered pocket and overall dimensions of 6.7″ L x 11.8″ W x 2.8″ D. This bag is no doubt simple, but sleek, and is everything that I look for in a simple bag.
