When we previewed the Salvatore Ferragamo Pre-Spring 2018 bags, many of you were as excited as I was about the colorful rainbow of new Ferragamo designs. We chatted together about the price of the bags, when they’d come out, and sharing our mutual love for the new look. Meet the Salvatore Ferragamo Vara Rainbow Bag, the brand’s new signature design that ties in the iconic Vara Bow ornament along with a fresh take. The Vara Bow is one of the most iconic marks for the brand, seen on some of its most sought-after bags and shoes. The Bow sits on the front center of the bag, which is a really beautiful element, and while the simplicity of the bag and the multitude of colors are enough for me to love it, the fresh-feeling rainbow zip pocket on the back of the bag is what has me obsessing.
The Salvatore Ferragamo Vara Rainbow Bags are incredibly functional and aesthetically so beautiful that I want one of each. I’ve talked a lot about hunting for the perfect smaller bag that is good for everyday use, and this bag fits the bill and then some. Small bags often run into a usability and functionality issue; they may be compact and easy-to-carry, but there isn’t enough space.
This bag tackles that problem by adding an exterior rainbow zip pocket, which accordions open to show three compartments to hold your cash and credit cards. That leaves the main interior compartment of the bag to hold your phone and other personal items, freeing up much-needed space.
This bag is not just a small bag or chain wallet, but instead it’s the quintessentially perfect combination of the two, and no other brand has melded the two more impeccably than Ferragamo was able to do with the Vara Rainbow. The rainbow coloring is a nod to the house’s Rainbow wedge sandal and Ferragamo’s storied use of color, as well as the company’s colorful origin in Hollywood, where starlets turned to the brand for custom designs.
The dimensions of this bag are H 5.9″ x L 7.8″ and W 5.1″. For the debut, the Salvatore Ferragamo Vara Rainbow is available in calfskin leather in Bon Bon Pink, Opal, Begonia and Black, as well as Lipstick Red patent leather. The chain shoulder strap can be doubled up or let go with a 20-22″ drop. My favorite colors are the classic black, which has dark hardware, or the too-pretty-for-words Opal with silver hardware. This bag packs a stylish and incredibly functional punch with a price that is hard to beat for the quality and workmanship.
