Few brands boast the quality and craftsmanship of Salvatore Ferragamo, which began as a leather shoe company in the 1920s. Since its inception, the brand has expanded its business to include a wide range of products, from accessories and handbags to ready-to-wear and beyond. It has become synonymous with creativity and an attention to Italian craft that is unmatched.
Though the brand did not begin making handbags until the 1960s, its expertise is in leathermaking, and it’s with that expertise that Ferragamo shines. Its bags have become increasingly more significant for the brand over the years, becoming coveted items of their own right and specifically marveled for their artisanal craftsmanship.
Ferragamo’s values and core DNA shine through within its bags, oozing history yet modernity at the same time, and though the brand is going through some major changes right now, while fashion fans eagerly await what’s next, its current offerings deserve a second look.
A Shift Towards the Casual
The brand describes its fall 2022 collection as a shift towards casual classicism during a time in which the world as a whole is changing its values and habits. This season, a recodification is at play, defining Ferragamo’s style and pragmatic vision in a new way. Pieces are meant to express the freedom of their wearer, offering a liberated sense of self-expression.
Even before new Creative Director Maximillian Davis’ design debut, it’s clear that change is on the horizon. Bags are fresh and modern, yet still classicly Ferragamo. They feel contemporary without straying too far from what the House has stood for all these years.
The New and the Noteworthy
While staple motifs and House emblems are re-coded in new textures, sizes, and hues, there is still plenty of newnesses to be seen throughout. A collection standout is the Aura Shoulder Bag, which features a little bit of everything that is big this season. With its crescent moon shape, chunky accent chain, and distinctive embossed Gancio logo, it is a bag that is not to be missed. Meant to feel casual and informal yet elevated and sleek, this saddlery-inspired bag can be worn in a variety of different ways: over the shoulder, cross-body, or carried as a clutch.
Updates to the Icons
Classic silhouettes are reinterpreted this season, too, like the now-iconic Studio bag. Introduced in 2018, the Studio bag has remained an integral part of the Ferragamo line-up, reimagined each season with stylish updates in seasonal hues and materials. For the fall season, a new bucket bag joins the lineup, giving off that timeless classic appeal that Ferragamo is known for while oozing a contemporary glamour. It features all of the Studio’s classic elements like the slider clasp, classic hardware, and studded bottom, all rolled into one of the season’s hottest silhouettes.
Looks similar to the Celine bucket bag. I don’t understand the ‘nasty’ comments people make.
People are allowed to express negative opinions about something they don’t like. They’re just talking about handbags… the only ‘nasty’ comments are the ones criticizing other contributors because you disagree with them. 🤷🏾♀️
Nothing better to say or do, more than often speaks volumes about them as individuals.
That Aura bag is gorgeous! Will definitely check it out in person. Love Ferragamo’s quality – their bags are so beautifully constructed.
I love Ferragamo bags with the sofia being my favorite!!!!
I live the Viva Bow bag. It’s cute and casual, and the leather is amazing. The Aura bag is really cool. I need to see that one in person!
I love Ferragamo bags. The Studio is my favorite. Will definitely check out the new bucket bag.
These are nice simple well made bags. Not trying to be too crazy with the design, just classic in their style. I like the Aura alot.
I always wonder who buys Ferragamo. Seems so dated.
I have about 15 pairs of their shoes and maybe eight handbags. Quality and classic styles that I can incorporate into my ever evolving style.
The people who buy Ferragamo bags are those who love quality handbags that don’t have screaming logos on them.
My first ‘high end’ bag, but also guilty of the logos 😉
Suuuuure… lol
I hate Ferragamo bags. In my city, only old people shop at Ferragamo.
There comes a time in one’s life when we search for quality, elegance, understated affluence. This is the time for Ferragamo. I understand younger people not liking these styles because younger people are still searching for themselves and therefore tend to jump on trendy items and louder styles to try and stand out. Style is evolutionary.
Very well said!
That’s exactly why I shop at Hermès and not Ferragamo.
Why the hate? Why the age-ism?
In my city, classy people buy Ferragamo.
I got Mulberry’s vibe here. This is not a bad thing for me but not stand out for Ferragamo I’m afraid.
I wish I liked the Ferragamo logo better, if so I’d probably own a few of their bags but I just don’t.
