In recent memory, Kate Spade‘s aesthetic has always been one of quirky cleanliness. Edgy prep, irreverent femininity, whatever you want to call it–Kate Spade is traditionally ladylike and youthful, but not without self-awareness of the tropes into which it plays. For Fall 2017, though, the brand has dialed back the jokes just a bit for bags that are simple, classic and more or less seasonless.
If you like the funnier side of Kate Spade, don’t despair; there are still some cute clutches, including one in the shape of a matryoshka. The collection’s clothes are also impressively luxe, with a rich mixture of prints, textures and saturated colors. Some of the line’s florals make the jump to the bags by way of neat embroideries, but on average, the bags are simple leather shapes that women who shop in Spade’s price range will find useful for a lot of different occasions. Best of all, none of them will look especially dated after a season or two. Check out the collection below.

Love the bags! They look very classic and I can see myself picking up quite a few bags from this collection.
Are they available now?
They’re nice enough, but many other designers already offer very similar bags. OTOH, I love the Black Forest cake bag in pic 17! We live just two hours from Baden-Baden, where that cake RULES, I would love to take it along for a spa week-end there 🙂
I was thinking the same thing. I see hints of Coach Rogue. Delvaux. Philip Lim 25 Hour. LV Speedy. This is a good alternative for those who don’t want to pay luxury prices for these shapes and silhouettes.
I do like that they brough back the old Sam shape in picture 13. I hate that I even sold mine.
I’m not a big fan of anything Kate Spade except I once had a bag that I adored and mistakenly sold it on eBay. How I long to have that bag back now. It was the Storm King Willa with a glittery snake finish and an interior fabric that was discreet instead of with obnoxious polka dots. I first saw SJP carrying it and immediately went and got one for myself. How I miss that bag. Boo hoo.
I HAVE to have the Russian doll bag!
I save 18, the rest? Already seen. 21 flower-embroidery and spotted together are awful. I prefer Kate when she uses her creativity not in this attempt to copy others…
