Is This Coach Bag What Regina George Would Carry in 2025?

It’s the Coach Teri, and it’s selling out fast!

Coach Teri

“We’re really sorry sir, unfortunately we do not have this bag in stock.”

Coach has definitely been having a moment; there’s no denying that. Be it Andy Sachs’ vintage Metropolitan briefcase, paired with pristine white Phoebe Philo garms and new-season Prada Mohawk pumps on the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2, Belly Conklin’s white Tabby from The Summer I Turned Pretty, the Brooklyn hobo that Bella Hadid has been dawdling about town with, or any of those sturdy leather early-aughts numbers inundating ThriftTok, Coach is, to put it rather plainly, so back.

Yet, the particular purse I was currently on the hunt for at the Coach store inside Phnom Penh’s sprawling shopping district wasn’t the supermodel-endorsed Brooklyn bag. Nor was it Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts’ trustee Empire Carryall. It wasn’t even the Tabby that stands front and center to Coach’s colossal comeback (although I have been since crushing on the Loved Leather Tabby 35 sitting pretty on the shelf).

It was, in fact, the Coach Teri, the new nostalgic throwback from the label. And it was sold out… pretty much everywhere. In hindsight, Cyber Monday probably wasn’t the best time to go looking for an it-girl-favorite bestseller, but such is life. Read on to find out why!

Nineties’ Nostalgia, 2025 Sensibilities

While yours truly was probably running around the house in diapers (or worse!) in 2003, the April issue of Vogue that year did an incredible spread titled “Juicy/Couture,” that documented the rise (and rise) of those Barbie Girl tracksuits in stomach-churning swatches of pink, often “adorned with absurdist slogans rendered in rhinestones on the derrière.”

Even John Galliano confessed to wearing Juicy for his jogs by the Seine.

And what was the bag of choice with said sweatpants? You see, beyond the Chanel Flaps and Hermès Birkins of Beverly Hills, it were those C-encrusted Coach pochettes that graced the arms (and armpits) of Juicy-clad fashionistas across America and beyond, with just enough space for their Rimmel lip-liners, dried-out gel-pens and their flippity-floppity T-Mobile sidekicks.

Ashley Tisdale walked the red carpet the same year in flip-flops and chunky highlights, the anachronistic Coach dangling from her fingers. In the Gossip Girl pilot, Serena van der Woodsen shocks the Upper East Side by showing upto Blair Waldorf’s party with a leather Coach number in tow.

Middle-school femme formidables wielded their own Coach wristlets like bite-sized Regina Georges, as if to declare, “My parents are afraid of me, and so are many of the teachers.” Not to mention, what started it all for our very own Megs back in 8th grade was, yes, a Coach Pochette!

And in 2025, it’s the Teri that’s out to take that crown.

A Versatile Queen for the Practical Diva

But today, the fashion-girlies a little more discerning, and a whole lot savvier. Those teensy-weensy Jacquemus? Basking in the backwaters of TheRealReal. Those overly-voluminous Margaux bags? Unboxed on Instagram, offloaded onto Fashionphile. Here are buyers that know expensive isn’t always better, who use words like “sustainability” consciously, and say things like “the edge paint has been applied with enough thickness” because they follow Tanner Leatherstein on TikTok. And it’s in these regards that the Teri excels.

Blending it-girl bait ’90s sensibilities with modern-day tweaks, the Teri is supremely versatile, coming in three sizes (the mini, regular, and hobo styles), and in over 18 different colorways, from Coach’s signature, Kevlar-strong pebbled and smooth leathers, to novelty spazzolato, printed fruity favorites, classic canvas monogram and denim, all available via the Coach Outlet.

And if, like me, the nearest outlet to you with a Teri in stock is 666km away, you may also be able to find it online!

But just because it’s a shoulder bag doesn’t mean it won’t allow you to go hands-free. Because apart from the designated (and detachable) shoulder strap (11-inch drop), the Teri can also be switched out with gold/silver chains, as well as removable crossbody straps (you can play around with Coach’s expansive selection) that offer a 22-inch drop.

“The point is,” reads the Coach site, “there’s a Teri bag for everyone.”

The Perfect Purse to Party, Play and More

I often wonder in my sleep: what exactly did Regina George have in her bag?

When she wasn’t plotting Cady’s downfall or dissing on ugly skirts, her LV pochette probably fit just enough for casual hangouts at the mall or after-school log-ins into MySpace in her bulky home (and probably pink) desktop.

The Regina George today, however, would probably have more on her person: those outmoded flip-phones now replaced by the latest iPhone, the frosty lip-glosses supplanted by Rhode lip balms, not to mention, the trifold wallet, and a compact selfie-light… because if Regina has anything, it’s influence.

Fortunately, the Coach Teri offers just the right amount of capacity for your it-girl contents without looking bulky or misshapen, seamlessly transitioning from day-to-night, from formal to casual dining and social outings.

Slip it on the black pebbled leather Teri and you’re ready to take on errands and coffee dates, come rain, shine, or the occasional coffee-spill. Sling it on crossbody, and you have the perfect companion for the airport.

Opt instead for the crystal-inlaid Teri, and you’re ready to take on the festive season. As a reviewer wrote: “The pins are beautiful and have a vintage feel. The crystals make it sparkle. It’s too pretty to save for special events only!”

Bonus: the Girl Math is Mathing!

Since its earliest Manhattan Leather Bags days, Coach has sat at the cusp of luxury, offering the premium feel without the prohibitive price-tag. And especially in an industry where price-hikes are now all too common, Coach remains one of the most accessible (they call it “expressive luxury”).

And its outlet bags – the Teri included – remains some of its most heavily discounted offerings. So, where the Teri Hobo could potentially set you back upto $239, the Floral Mini Crossbody rendition, at 60% discount, starts from $119! Prices vary, of course, depending on size, fabrication, and colorways. But what we do know is that, when it comes to the Teri, you get a lot of bag for your money, and cost-per-wear becomes well-nigh zero!

At the end of the day, the Teri, endorsed by the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Camila Mendes, Talia Goddess and Elle Fanning, embodies that “Stars!–They’re Just Like Us” mentality. For $199 or less, you could nab yourself a slice of that cool; a nostalgia for ’90s Manhattan and its gritty Meatpacking District that existed before the realm of rampant screens.

If that’s not aspirational, what is?
