If there’s one thing that Chanel has perfected over the years, it’s updating its cornerstone silhouettes and most timeless designs in new novelty materials and colors meant to entice even the pickiest of fans. Karl Lagerfeld was the original master of this, but it continues with Virginie Viard at the helm.
While the brand’s most classic leathers and staple colors are carried over from season to season, it’s typically the novelty bags and limited edition seasonal colors that become some of the most coveted of the season. Oftentimes they come at a premium on the resale market too.
I’ve always said that when (and if!) I add something from Chanel to my collection; I want it to either be a special seasonal piece or a rare vintage find. There’s nothing wrong with a Classic Black Caviar Flap Bag, but I want a bold statement-making piece that fits my personality. While I’m not in the market right now to purchase a Chanel Bag, I’m always on the lookout for something special, and one of the brand’s most recent Classic Flaps caught my eye, and I cannot unsee it.
The Handbag World’s Best Metallics
When it comes to metallics, one can argue that no one, and I mean no one, does them quite like Chanel. Each season I find myself drawn toward them, and this one is no different. Crafted from Pearly Goatskin leather, it’s not even fully metallic, but it has just the right amount of sheen. This bag feels like sunshine to me.
It’s the perfect combination of both unique but classic and girly with an edge. Chanel has always done its pinks really well, and this one is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. There is also a yellow version in the Pearly Goatskin, but I find the pink to be more unique, with an almost ombré effect. Following the last price increase, retail is $10,200 via Chanel.
“Nobody does metallics like Chanel” You’re absolutely right, other brands won’t have it peeling or cracking or fading.
Pretty color but the 5 figure price means I’ll never be stepping into a Chanel boutique to buy a bag. Not sure if it’s just me but I’m starting to feel turned off by the blatant greed and the desperate approach to consumption that basically means consumers are rushing in before the artificial price increase pushes items further out of reach. I’m finding myself more focused on enjoying what I have and keen to step off this rat race. Love this blog but starting to feel like I’d rather do the window shopping via articles than acquiring anything new.
What a boring bag. I can’t imagine anyone paying $10k for this.
There’s a lot of things I would never buy but I “get it” that others do. Weird shapes, novelty clutches, etc… The Chanel Flap and Boy to me are so… boring. Yeah yeah “classic” but at this point it’s been done to death and I just don’t get why somebody today saves up or goodness goes to DEBT or something for a Chanel flap bag. Mind-blowing to me. I feel similar for Hermes Birkin but that’s a separate subject because that one’s uglier IMO…
If I had so much money to burn that I wouldn’t feel 10k at all, and I wanted a known brand, I’d at least get stuff like Celine luggage maybe, or Hermes Lindy, or if I want a more classic style then Celine box, etc etc I can think of like 10 minimum of known bags that aren’t as insanely boring as a Chanel flap and cost a lot less!
At this point you’re a victim if you’re willing to blow money this indiscriminately
No, not a victim because to pay these prices they’re familiar with the brand, they have the money, and are willing to pay it. I call it stupidity.
I’m not usually a fan of Chanel bags but I like the look of this one. They’re absolutely insane pricing this at 10.2K though but what’s new LOL
It’s beautiful but I’m not paying 5 figures for it.
It’s cute but what bothers me about Chanel is that the classic bag seems to be the flagship over the original reissue bag which is the one Chanel made herself. Instead Karl’s version is glorified smh. As far as pricing goes Chanel’s flap bag has been around much longer than the Birkin and when people compare quality over Hermes they should consider the fact that all Hermes bags are basic leather cut outs with basic straps and only hardware to to identify itself. Where Chanel has quilt stitching all over, straps with detail and generally interiors made of different materials. Funny how people gasp at a Chanel bag for 10k but not a Birkin ? But it’s ok for us to expect to pay 10k for a Chanel tweed jacket that will more than likely ware over time??
There’s a big difference in material and quality. Neither are “worth it” but if you’re gonna spend over $10k then pick the better option.
This bag is boring, not beautiful. How is it any different from the other 8363625225 Chanel bags
okay
Very pedestrian
Iridescent chanel is my weakness…i buy used since i dont live near a store and its impossible for me to pay for the original price. I love chanel limited edition pieces.
It is a beautiful bag! My hesitation would be the color only because I worry about color transfer. I have a pink WOC and I am always worried when I use it, all my other Chanel are black.
That’s a legitimate concern to have! I have a red lambskin Urban Spirit backpack, and the color transfer is horrible! I can’t find anyone who would dye it, because reds are hard to match (on top of the texture changing). So, I’m stuck with a ruined $3k+ bag. Never would I have purchased, had I known. My previous Chanel bags were black caviar. However, I really have no desire to purchase another Chanel, with these exorbitant prices and poor quality.
Aloha, maybe just once a year, Chanel could have a sale. Please bring back the Suede with Fringe. Thank you!
