Chanel’s Preppy Coco: The Next Must-Have It-Bag?

The most-buzzed about new bag is coming soon...

Chanel Preppy Coco Bag Chanel 26 Bag JENNIE

BLACKPINK’s Jennie has been a Chanel global ambassador since 2019, and most recently joined Dua Lipa as the face of the Chanel 25. So when the K-pop star posted a photo to her Instagram sporting a curious new Chanel bag with the simple caption @chanelofficial, Chanel lovers took notice.

The new bag—part shoulder bag, part flap bag, quickly gained traction and buzz within the handbag world ahead of Chanel’s Pre-Collection Spring 2026 drop, which hits boutiques later this week. Dua Lipa was spotted with the same bag during the holidays and eagle-eyed fans will also recall that Jennie wore a yellow version to the Spring 2026 show.

So what’s the deal with this mysterious new bag?

Could the Preppy Coco Be Chanel’s Next It-Bag?

With Pre-Spring 2026’s official drop coming later this week, there is little official information about this bag out there just yet, but sources are calling this little lady the Preppy Coco bag—chic (it’s also been referred to as the Chanel 26)! The bag is defined by its thin, elongated shoulder straps and square flap bag body, reminiscent of the Chanel bags of the 1960s.

What stands out about this bag is that it’s the first big Chanel push in recent memories that feels like classic Chanel, understated and reminiscent of bags of the past with a true retro feel. In the last few years, big launches like the Chanel 22 and the Chanel 25, have leaned ultra-trendy, so this is a big shift.

So far, this bag looks to be arriving in caviar leather, and has been spotted in hues including yellow, black, navy, beige and white. While we wait for more, let us know what you think of this new bag in the comments below and join all of the Chanel Pre-Spring 2026 (26P) chatter happening right now on tPF!

I saw this and dusted off my vintage Hermes Drag 27. I love how circular fashion is, now that I’m old enough to have the pieces from the first time around lol

Every designer is making bags with these long straps. I don’t like them. They are awkward and when you sit down you have to fold the straps over the purse. No chance to customize them at all. I don’t know why people like them except for photos maybe. But they aren’t practical imo.

Lorelei

Girls, young girls, appreciate your thick hair and your healthy teeth, but most importantly appreciate your strong shoulders because that’s what holds up these bags! When you get older, your shoulders start to slope and these bags slip off. And then it’s Crossbody all day long!

Nick

Lol well that’s so true!! My grand mother used to tell me about it. Hahaha

Benny

And these type of straps tend to slide down off the shoulder too. You can see it happening in one of the Instagram photos. Also very basic and grandmother ish.

Lorelei

Grandmother Ish??! I have eight grandkids, and you should see my handbag collection. It is the envy of all of my grown daughter’s friends still. And don’t get me started on my shoes and Jewelry. 🙌🏻

Maria Santos

Lorelei – Love ur comment! Same here, but I have no kids and only have nephews, none of which are interested in my vast handbag, shoes and jewelry collection! I have a 6′ vintage french display cabinet that contains my Chanel jewelry alone!

NataR

Thank you, sister grandmother.

I feel like opening the flap while carrying it on one strap might be tricky.

Sandy

Oh, so true! Perhaps I am not
quite as encouraged as I first thought.

SMC422

I already struggle with some shoulder bags cause of my awkward shoulder and also depends on what coat/ jacket I am wearing – feel like as soon as I try to open the flap, the bag on that one ‘back’ strap on my shoulder would slip down my arm.

KlaraP

This bag lacks vitality to me. It ages the carrier… Again, to each their own.

Grace

Completely agree. I find it uninteresting.

Anja

I don’t see this as a bag that ages the carrier. I don’t hate this bag, it is cute, but I could never wear it because I feel like it is too young for me. Like this looks like something a young 20-something would be wearing.

Annie

I feel this bag transcends all ages, and it’s not too young, or too old, for any woman to carry. Also, it’s sophisticated and can elevate any style.

Ehhhhh

It’s so…plain. That’s cool if that’s your aesthetic, but I bet the price point would drive me to bags that are well made at a tenth of the cost.

Kristy

Jumping on the Teckel lookalike bandwagon a few seasons too late. I’ll stick with the Alaia original I think.

Bee

Chanel just doing anything with this bag.

Gianna

Not a fan. Pass.

Fala Li

I think it’s really cute, but I cannot justify the current prices. I stopped buying Chanel flaps when the price hit $2,750 for a classic m/l flap. Believe it or not, it was not that long ago.

Sapph

Not into how the straps go over the flap, looks like an annoying design. The steaps have a cheap look to them, like leftover bits of leather vs. a planned and designed strap. Can’t adjust length or crossbody and it’s boring.

I’m excited for a new bag that does not have a chain strap!

Eliz

Hahaha, I was about to post that I really only like chain straps. So I guess it makes sense that some bags do have chain and some have leather straps. But these pictures are giving me a bit of a Coach vibe. I would love to see this in person.

Alexis168

Anything Jenny carries, girls will buy. Just like Lisa showing her Labubus.

Sandy

I cannot wait for an update, this one looks promising!

Georgina

The straps look poorly attached on as if it’s with glue 😅

Marionica

Honestly, the bag is cute, but just okay. I personally wouldn’t buy something like this from Chanel. I like the overall shape, but the handles remind me of the little antennae of some sea creature, and overall it feels uninspiring.

From a practical standpoint, the handles already annoy me, even though I haven’t actually used the bag. They seem like they would constantly slide off the shoulder and get in the way when trying to open the bag while it’s on the shoulder. They also look awkward to store. It’s not clear how you’re supposed to fold or place them. Either the bag has to be laid flat with enough space for the handles to stretch out, or they have to somehow stand upright.

I also keep thinking about real-life situations, like going to a restaurant. With a traditional chain strap, it naturally falls onto the bag. Here, these stiff, upright “antennae” would stick up above the bag, or you’d have to hang the bag on the back of a chair. Maybe once everyone starts wearing it and there’s a big marketing push I’ll change my mind, but for now, it’s a no for me.

Chanel went from using the Monaco royals as muses to these two – I remotely don’t want anything they are peddling but then again I’m not the Chanel customer they are targeting

The state of celebrity just keeps getting worse. Now it seems the formula is:

1) do a ton of body altering cosmetic procedures
2) wear a ridiculous dress you can’t sit in to a red carpet event
3) flood social media with mindless videos.

Susan

Monaco doesn’t have any “royals.” It’s a principauté.

Lorelei

You get what she’s trying to say, and I knew exactly who she was talking about. I think everyone knows who she’s talking about. This is not a fun party trick that you’re doing. This gets you uninvited from parties.

Susan

No one wants to attend your lame parties.

Flicka

Lorelei sounds classy. I would like to attend her parties.

londoncalling

I love the non-quilting (I missed out on the Chanel “pure” some years ago), but the strap placement looks like this style would awkward to open.

Josieverona

Old fashioned

Daisy

It looks very poorly constructed

Anna

I just find it too basic/ordinary to buy. Nothing against it, it’s very not offensive. Also it def doesn’t suit Dua Lipa. Different vibes.
