There’s nothing quit like the launch of an extremely high-end fashion collection expressly intended to be taken on ski trips to remind you that being rich is indeed very different than being regular, and today, Chanel is here to provide exactly that. The French powerhouse recently launched Coco Neige (“neige” means “snow” in French), and if you’re currently planning the type of mountain getaway for which you will need an entirely new aprés ski wardrobe, well, here you go.
The collection, fronted by Australian actress Margot Robbie, includes a mixture of Chanel signatures (tweed, quilted leather) with pieces that have a decidedly more athletic look (nylon backpacks, puffer coats). When this collection was first announced, I figured it probably wouldn’t include handbags—after all, I’ve never seen anyone carry a bag while doing a winter sport. It’s Chanel, though, so I should have known better.
If you’ve been imagining “Chanel ski-themed handbags” in your head for the past two paragraphs, then you already know basically what I’m about to show you. The collection includes flap bags, shopping totes, backpacks and fanny packs, all finished in neutral tones of leather, shearling, nubuck, wool, tweed and nylon. The shapes are mostly familiar, if you’re a Chanel fan, and you can check them all out below. The collection also includes ready-to-wear, shoes, and accessories including hats, gloves and brooches. I am just not a Chanel girl. I feel like most of the bags look matronly. I think the backpack with puffy letters is cute, but not for $5k. I’d rather get a Delvaux or Hermes, or spend less and get one of the new Celine small belt bags. PS not sure if it was mentioned here already (probably was) but I heard Hedi Slimane is discontinuing the luggage bag…anything not already sold and shipped will be destroyed.
