Let’s not pretend this is anything more than what it actually is: earlier this week, Karl Lagerfeld threw his Chanel Artist Dinner at Balthazar, which is something he does every year as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. At that event, a wide swath of Lagerfeld’s harem showed up, all sporting impeccable Chanel bags, which were perhaps passed out at check-in. (We’re just guessing, but it feels true.) Singers, indie actresses, models, people who are famous for being well-liked by Karl Lagerfeld – the usual suspects were all there, and because it’s fun to look at those people carrying gorgeous bags, we’ve put together a little gallery of the festivities below. Who are these “celebs?” I’ve only heard about half of the them?
One of the strangest things about Karl Lagerfeld, to me, is that he seems to have his own universe of fame that happens in his own version of reality, which includes a lot of people who are not actually famous in objective reality.
With the exception of the models and Grace Hightower (lol at how her hubby Robert De Niro was cropped out), who are these people? Guess it’s the euro crowd. Nice bags, though
Great looking bags. Even if some, or half of these people aren’t famous, they make Chanel look more luxurious than half the famous starlets who carry it. For example, your feature on Ariana Grande a couple days ago, made Chanel less desirable.
I guess as they say… money can’t buy you class.

these people may not be famous in america, they may not even be screen stars or famous models. many of them are probably famous in literary/ theatre/ art circles. lets not doubt their fame. they’re at Karl’s event after all and he does like a slightly more intellectual crowd..
