The Best Celebrity Bag Looks of 2017

Gucci, Dior, Prada, Chloé, Gabriela Hearst and a few surprises!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: the time when we get to look back on the 2017 in review and ruminate about our favorite music, movies, beauty products, cultural snafus and, of course, celebrity handbag picks. There has been a lot of hand-wringing on my part over some of these…were they bold and new enough to make the cut? Were there other bags I was forgetting that should rightfully fill their place? Could we find one decent shot of someone carrying an Alexander McQueen Box Bag? (Yes! Exactly one!) But as always, I’m curious to hear your feedback. Which of these bags are ingrained in your memory forever, and what might I have missed?

As we do every year, we’ve endeavored to pick from looks beyond the standard Chanel and Hermès bags in every celebrity closet, and we hope you’ll enjoy this walk on the wild side.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Alessandra always dazzles us with her collection of designer bags, but this season the Louis Vuitton Neonoe Bag was a strong favorite. Its appeal is pretty obvious: It goes with everything short of evening wear, and it’s a new silhouette for the LV brand. Shop the Louis Vuitton Neonoe Bag via Louis Vuitton ($1,450)

Claire Foy

The Alexander McQueen Box Bag (seen here on the arm of Netflix’s queen, Claire Foy) has only recently become a favorite among celebrities, and now that I think about it, maybe British celebs specifically. It was certainly one of our favorites from the Fall 2017 runways. Shop the Alexander McQueen Box Bag via farfetch.com ($1,990)

Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger is always a couple paces ahead of most celebs when it comes to what’s new in handbags, so when she carried this Simon Miller Bonsai Bucket Bag, we took note. Simon Miller was of course one of our 6 Indie Brands to Watch Right Now for Fall 2017. Shop the Simon Miller Bonsai Bucket Bag via Net-a-Porter ($850)

Emmy Rossum

This Salvatore Ferragamo shoulder bag is so new it’s basically still nameless, but we love its incredibly svelte, suede, sophisticated vibe. And pay attention, because oversized ring details have taken over designer bags in a big way. Shop Ferragamo via Neiman Marcus

Gabrielle Union

The Michael Kors Bancroft Bag has been on multiple celeb arms this season, but few carried it with as much panache as Gabrielle Union. We got our first look at the Bancroft this summer, and we’re not surprised it’s winning fans. Shop the Michael Kors Bancroft Bag via Nordstrom ($1,390)

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum does everything, but she still occasionally surprises me with her effortless, low-key style. Take this MCM Patricia Saddle Bag. The logoless version is possibly the most subtle, understated style MCM makes. Shop the MCM Patricia Bag via farfetch.com ($645)

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence got to pluck this dragon-adorned Dior Bucket Bag right off the Dior runway. Which makes sense, of course, because she’s one of the best-known celeb faces for Dior.

Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth did a press tour this fall that wowed us with the trip’s insane handbag and ready-to-wear offerings. Here are two of her/our favorites: an edgy grey Chloé Faye Day Bag for trendy airport looks…Shop the Chloé Faye Day Bag via farfetch.com ($1,990)

Kate Bosworth

And a beautiful, pale Gabriela Hearst Demi Bag that goes with practically anything one could wear on an event carpet.

Kelly Rowland

You’ve made it to the Gucci section of our best bag looks of 2017. Welcome! First up, Kelly Rowland, carrying an opulent Gucci Dionysus Bag, complete with sequined black panther. Shop the Gucci Dionysus Bag via Gucci ($2,890)

Kesha

And here’s my personal favorite: Kesha carrying a bamboo-handled Gucci Frame Bag outside of LAX. That crystal tiger head clasp really embeds itself in your memory. Shop the Gucci Frame Bag via Gucci ($4,600)

Margot Robbie

Here’s Margot Robbie with one of Prada’s latest, most sumptuous offerings: The Prada Corsaire Bag, which Megs dubbed a “versatile must-have.” Shop the Prada Corsaire Bag via farfetch.com ($1,420)

Miranda Kerr

One of Kaitlin’s personal faves this year was the Fendi Kan I Bag. Studs got a tad played out in the last five years, but rather than abandon them completely, Fendi simply reinvented them. Quite successfully, I might add. Miranda Kerr is also a fan.

Rihanna

Finally, we must pay homage to Rihanna‘s Delvaux Brillant Bag. If you’ll look closely, you’ll notice that’s not a real wad of cash inside, it’s the $5K Judith Leiber x Alexander Wang collab clutch, which is now sold out. Shop Delvaux Bags via Barneys
