I have a confession to make. I forget about Alaïa sometimes.
I know Alaïa makes handbags. I’ve included them in round-ups, and I’ve seen them worn by street style stars during fashion week, but somehow, I still forget that Alaïa not only makes handbags but covetable ones at that.
The handbag market is dominated by major luxury makers, so it is easy to overlook the brands that aren’t handbag-centric. Like many of you, we’re consistently trying to explore new bags and brands we don’t often cover. Alaïa is one of them, and its latest bag is definitely worth mentioning.
From My Feed to Your Screen
I was doing a typical scroll through Instagram sometime last month when a cool, east/west shoulder bag made my finger pause mid-scroll to get a second look. I don’t typically gravitate toward east/west bags, but this one screamed chic, and I immediately wanted to know more.
I made a mental note and filed it away until this past weekend, a suggested post from Pieter Mulier, creative director of Alaïa, jogged my memory, giving me a second look at the Alaïa Le Teckel Bag. It was instant love yet again, and I nearly melted when I learned that the bag is named after the French word for the Dachshund dog breed.
Can we get a collective “awww?!”
A Closer Look at the Alaïa Le Teckel Bag
Like its namesake, The Le Teckel is characterized by its elongated horizontal shape. Meant to be worn over the shoulder, its tubular handles are fitted with two decorative ties. They also have a nice drop measurement, making this bag perfect for wearing over hefty winter layers.
Debuting on the runway last season, the Le Teckel is introduced in two sizes, small and original. Both sizes are available in various colors and fun novelties like studs and suede. While there’s little to be said about this bag due to its simplicity, it is incredibly sleek, offering an instant chic appeal.
Its design just works, and because it differs from many of the bags on the market right now, it feels fresh. Leather versions are crafted from calfskin leather and lined in suede lambskin, featuring internal card slot pockets. The overall dimensions of the small are 3.5″ H x 10.6″ W x 3.2″ D, with the original offering an interior space of 4.3″ H x 13″ W x 3.9″ D.
What do you think? Are you an Alaïa fan?
honestly? it kinda looks like a oversized pencil case with shoulder strap.
Not a fan at all. It looks super awkward.
This bag feels very overpriced to me.
I like Alaia but not this bag. Reminds me too much of the flute case I carried in high school. And is overpriced (the norm these days but still…). I’d rather search for a preloved LV epi Jasmin or Soufflot in very good condition. Like the ones shown in your column last year: https://www.purseblog.com/louis-vuitton/louis-vuitton-epi-leather-is-back-invest-in-one-of-these-vintage-styles/
I finally saw this bag IRL. It is so chic and comfortable when worn over the shoulder. The leather is gorgeous and craftsmanship excellent. Check out the interior – the softest lambskin lining and a sleek little removable mirror. Very old school glamorous. I was skeptical of all the fashion buzz about it, but you really have to see it and hold it.
I have it in black and love it so much. It’s nice to have a smallish bag that fits everything in. Now I think I need on in white!!!
I posted a reply that has not yet been published. Why is there a hold on replies that link to one of your own columns??? makes no sense

Thanks but when I look at it, it still appears with “awaiting for approval” in orange type

Uh it’s nothing to do with links. Every comment of mine has to be approved which is absolutely ridiculous. Is the goal to make it so annoying/difficult that nobody even comments, much less comes on this site anymore? If that’s the case you’re succeeding.
