Often when I get a sudden desire for a particular type of bag that seems random to me, a little digging reveals that the particular thing I’m desiring is actually a nascent trend. When you look at anything all day for work, little emerging patterns worm their way into your brain unexpectedly, and by the time you recognize them, it’s not always 100% clear how they got there. I thought that was likely the case with my out-of-the-blue need for a hunter green bag, but based on some window shopping I did yesterday, the brands are lagging a bit behind this particular shopping compulsion.
To me, hunter green is like navy blue or burgundy: it’s a color that’s functionally neutral when incorporated into most wardrobes (and especially most fall wardrobes), but it still stands out against the jeans or black pants, neutral tops or knits that most people wear on most days. Its depth as a shade means that enhances the natural richness of fine leathers, and because it hasn’t been especially trendy in a while, the color feels fresh and unexpected.
Most of the retailers I checked had only a handful of green bags in stock of any color, and even fewer in the dark hue I’m suddenly craving. There were about a dozen contenders among them, though, and I have a feeling that more may be on the way in the not-so-distant future. I may not have the power to move the industry with a single blog post, but dark green bags certainly do sound like a nice thing now, don’t they?
