Valentino Ricamo Macro Paillettes Tote

It’s rare that I find myself completely conflicted, but that’s where the Valentino Ricamo Macro Paillettes Tote has me. Sometimes I love it, other times I’m not impressed by it at all. Would it be fair to give it the benefit of the doubt just because it’s Valentino?

I hate to say it, but…maybe? Of any handbag designer that I can think of off the top of my head, more than anyone else, the folks at Valentino have earned a little suspension of disbelief from their customers. They make weird, fantastical, intricate bags that few others would have the vision or skill to create, and perhaps we owe them some latitude as a result.

But then again, it still sort of looks like those cheap, shapeless paillette-covered totes that were popular a couple years back with both elderly women and style-challenged teenagers alike. This particular bag has more subtle details because of the subtle size graduation of the black and white paillettes, but is that enough to make it significantly different (and significantly better) than the similar bags that we’ve seen before? I’m not sure, but I do know that I keep coming back to it, which probably means something. Buy through Bergdorf Goodman for $2395.

The color arrangement, etc is pretty-but overall I just am blah. I think it’s the paillettes.

Contrasted against a totally black outfit I think this would look great.

    Creepy bag…

Love Valentino’s over the top tranny bags!

    Oooh, they did it again!…

Psychedelic zebra fish scale, imo. *blah*

At first, I thought that they were covered in weird little feathers. I think maybe it’s the size. It’s too big, and I bet that it’s heavy. There’s no way that I would pay that much for a paillete bag but to each his own.

    No, thank you :)

I kinda like it, but at the same time the first thing I thought of was those sequin bags from a few years back. As I seem to remember they were about $15 at Target and Wal*Mart, so this price point is too high. I don’t care if it is Valentino.

I think it could work if it was more structured and was smaller. I agree with Nicola it could look great against an all black outfit. I would love to see an actress rock it.

Saw its black-only version the other and it just looks like a giant animal to me because the paillettes are not lieing flat at all…so it really looks alive and weird. A smaller version might have pulled it off though.

the size, the strap, the setting of the leather plat is exactly like the shopper from Giorgio Armani which looks kinda like the LV Neverfull…. no new idea on a new shape of a bag? what a let down creation from Valentino
