There are parts of the Sonia Rykiel Emma Crystal-Embellished Tote that I like, and then there are the parts that I don’t. I usually have a bit of both with all the bags that I review, but the dichotomy between what I love and what I hate with this one is so huge that I’ve got to split this one in to two parts. First, the things I like. I like the shape of the bag. An easy-to-carry satchel that’s not too big or too small. It’s got a frame up top to give it some structure, but it still doesn’t look like it would be too heavy. The color is nice – not too light or pink that it looks like a pastel, but still light enough to be an interesting neutral. The leather looks soft. I like the closure.

And now, what I don’t like. Care to guess? All the crap stuck on the front. I can kind of see where they’re going with it, but I don’t think they quite got there. Maybe the crystals and studs vary too greatly in size and shape, I’m not sure, but I don’t like the end result. It looks a little too craft-project for me, and I know Sonia Rykiel likes to do her own thing with the adornment of her bags, but this just isn’t quite right. Also, the handles are too long. But mostly it’s the art store bedazzling on the front. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $2450.

I’ll just step right out with the ick – it’s a naked bedazzled handbag. The naked flesh color is just creeping me out.

The bag is HIDEOUS!!! The color looks like vomit and those crafty studdy things look like first grade. If my first grader did this, I’d say, “Oh how pretty! Did you do this by yourself?” But looking at the price tag, I’m kind of insulted.

Bleh, someone went at a nice bag with a bejewler! Not cute.

all together an ugly bag …

It would be boring without the stuff on the front.

I’m all for the soft leather but I AGREE the crystals/studs look too tacky!!!! Boo!

Not feeling this one either…looks like it’s been bejeweled or something (you’re completely right Hazel!). Plus the price is too outrageous for me!

I’m with you, Amanda, in that I don’t think it’s all bad, at all.

In fact, I think the leather and the colour of the leather are really nice (I like blush pinks and pinkish-nudes, a lot).

I also think that the embellishment could actually be quite nice on a clutch, or on a casual, plain, slouchy, long-strapped hobo; but I agree that it doesn’t work so well on a bag of this shape.

I’m not completely convinced by the combination of the slightly olive-y coloured stones, with the pinkish-beige colour of the leather, either; but that could be, at least partly, due to NAP’s notoriously dingy pics!

Having said that, I also agree that it would be a pretty boring bag without any embellishment, at all, so I think it needs something; just not quite this.

Perhaps a few vintage-look crystals and/or grey and/or richer brown stones would look better? Or some sort of print?

I also think a bit of off-black, would toughen it up a bit :)

Incidentally, it says on NAP that the designer colour is ‘chair’; I wonder if that’s correct?

Or could it actually be ‘Chere’, seeing as Sonia is French?

    So not my taste.

I know that it looks like someone went to town on the bag with a bedazzler but i like it. it is a fun bag and probably is nice in the sun

Glad to see, that most of your comments agree with me. Why? Because I know a little about handbags since I am importing them from Italy and I like to discover new designs ….

Looks like grandma has been shopping at the Craft Barn again and has decided to hand make birthday presents this year because it’s “more personal” than store-bought gifts.
