Steal of the Week: The Tory Burch Juliette Bag

This little bag is sleek, sophisticated and looks much more expensive than it is

Traditionally, when a bag falls at a price tier below that of premier designer options, you can sort of…tell. Not only do the leather and hardware not look as luxurious, but for a long time, bags at those price points were made with young, casual customers in mind, which meant they were more likely to be slouchy or embellished in such a way that they’d make bad work options.

In the past five years, though, and especially with the breakout success of Mansur Gavriel‘s sleek, sophisticated contemporary styles, more brands have elevated their under-$500 options to appeal to grownups who just don’t want to spend $2,000 on a bag. That’s a wonderful turn of events for shoppers at all price points, and it has brought us some terrific bags, including the brand new Tory Burch Juliette Top Handle Bag.

This bag first caught my eye on a casual scroll through the new arrivals at Neiman Marcus, and before I could read its info, my brain immediately registered Alexander McQueen as the most likely designer. It has exactly the sort of midcentury traditionalism the brand prefers, but in this case, the designer is Tory Burch and the price isn’t four figures; it’s $448, available in burgundy, navy and black.

At eight inches wide, the bag is still big enough to fit your iPhone (even if it’s the big one!) and some essentials, which makes it the perfect weekend or night-out option for the coming cooler weather, which often calls for something a little more tailored and sophisticated.

We’re always in favor of bags that look more expensive than they actually are, and this one fits the bill perfect. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $448.
