It’s no secret that the prices of handbags have become astronomical. Where once entry-level bag prices felt attainable—like something you could strive for after a big promotion at your first job or as a graduation gift—now, entry-level prices cost more than a monthly rent or mortgage payment.
Luxury brands like Chanel and Hermès have continued to blame inflation and the ever-increasing cost of both materials and labor for their exorbitant price hikes, while other brands boast a renewed commitment to quality and craft.
Why Contemporary Bags Are Having a Moment
Still, consumers have had enough—and rightfully so. Yet there is a bright side to all of this, because for every five-figure price tag (looking at you, Chanel), there’s a low four- or even three-figure price tag waiting in the wings. There’s really no better time to explore the many contemporary labels that are making truly great bags.
While in weeks past we’ve talked again and again about our favorites, like Polène and Coach, there’s one bag that burst onto the scene this year that I keep coming back to time and time again. If you read the title, then you guessed it—I’m talking about the Tory Burch Pierced Bag.

Giving off the ultimate air of downtown cool with a touch of luxe, the Tory Burch Pierced Bag was inspired by the cult-favorite Tory Burch Pierced Mules, which helped catapult the brand’s renaissance of the 2020s. Debuting on the runway for the Spring 2025 season, the bag received early buzz on social media, with fans eagerly awaiting its release.
The Bag Everyone’s Talking About: Tory Burch Pierced Bag
Rarely does a contemporary bag pique my interest to the degree that the Pierced Bag has, but its curved lines and distinct pierced corner immediately struck me as innovative and cool. Months later, I’ve returned to the Pierced Bag once again, and this time I’m obsessed with the animal-printed calf hair iteration—though there are other seasonal versions, like suede and embossed croc, that are close runners-up.
While the Pierced Bag first dropped in one size, a smaller iteration has entered the handbag chat—and I can’t decide which version I like more. The smaller size would make a great evening bag and would function similarly to the Prada Cleo, slimly sitting under the arm when worn over the shoulder.
