Hammitt Los Angeles Topanga Studded Hobo

Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to take you back in time for a moment. The year is 2005, I’m still in college, and I stumble across PurseBlog while looking for information on a reasonably priced brown bag to add to my collection. And by “my collection,” I mean the one quasi-expensive handbag that I already had. What I found here and eventually purchased was the Isabella Fiore Whip Flash Audra Hobo, a bag that got me more compliments than any other I’ve ever owned, in any price range.

Flash forward to the present, I’m now a full-time employee and that bag has long since left my collection (although I wish I still had it from time to time). But it looks as though I may have a second chance of sorts, since the Hammitt Los Angeles Topanga Studded Hobo appears to be its 2009 twin.

There are two obvious similarities – first, the shape. They’re both triangular hobos with short handles, which is one of my favorite bag shapes to wear. The second is what really reminded me of the Fiore bag, and that’s the line of studs along the bottom with three tabs – one at each end and one in the middle. The Fiore has more small details and the Hammitt is more sleek and modern, but they’re almost the same in their fundamentals.

I don’t necessarily think that one is a ripoff of the other – the Fiore bag was a cult favorite at best, and it’s been off the market for several years now. The bags to bear a heavy resemblance, though, so I suppose it’s up to everyone to decide for themselves. Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $550.
