Love It or Leave It: The Saint Laurent Sac Cœur Bag

To carry or not to carry? That is the question...

As a brand, French heritage label Saint Laurent has long been known for its strong, feminine styles that ooze both sex appeal and glamour. The brand’s RTW, shoes and bags have mesmerized fashion lovers with its iconic silhouettes, offering chic pieces that carry you from season to season. Since Anthony Vaccarello joined the brand, the designer has honed in on his own aesthetic, slowly fusing his personal direction with that of his predecessor.

When it comes to bags, it’s taken a few years for Vacarello to find his groove, but the last few seasons we’ve seen some new additions that are interesting and sleek, sitting well alongside the brand’s logo-heavy assortment. Popular styles like the Loulou and Kate remain an integral part of the brand’s lineup, but it has been exciting to see the brand move in another direction. Interesting new styles like the Le 5 A 7, and The Le Maillon have caught our eye, and now we’re taking a look at the latest from Saint Laurent, the Sac Cœur Bag.

The Details

Simple, yet sleek with an equestrian feel and a vintage vibe, this bag isn’t exactly the archival revival we’ve been waiting for, but it is clearly inspired by YSL bags from the 80s and 90s.

Featuring a canvas body with a soft, calf-leather trim, the bag’s patched YSL emblem is a true ode to the House’s past. The Sac Cœur has a top zip and an adjustable shoulder strap, so that the bag can also be worn crossbody. The thin, rounded leather strap is another nod to vintage leather bags of the past. A classic, easy style that is hard not to love, it is a keeper in my book.

Do you love it too or would you leave it?

This is on par with a lesser Dooney & Bourke.

I like vintage, old-school handbags. This one doesn’t look like that nor does it look ver modern. I rarely use this word, but it looks DATED.

Must say that the copy editing on Purse Blog has gone from bad to worse. This is the pinnacle however when you can’t even get the name of the bag right. It is coeur or heart, because of the shape of the bag. Sure hope you aren’t sponsored by YSL.

Thanks for the feedback. LVR has the bag misspelled on their end, which is how the error sneaked in. We’ll make sure to pay closer attention going forward.

First, there is creasing next to the logo and I assume this a very new bag shown. It leads me to believe that the bag bends this way when reaching in or just creases way too easily. Second, uncoated, pale canvas would get dirty in two minutes – especially since the bag can’t balance on its own. Third, the bag design itself nothing special.
