The Saint Laurent Icare Maxi Tote was one of 2022’s most divisive new releases. Immediately it garnered attention from the celeb set, influencers, and everyday handbag lovers. Its popularity was nearly impossible to ignore, and it was spotted on stars week after week. Now, there’s a brand new Saint Laurent big bag in town, and just like the Icare Maxi, it is already a favorite of stars, debuting on the arms of Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Olivia Wilde, Mark Tuan, and more.
The Spirit of Travel
For Spring 2023, Saint Laurent introduces a relaxed new bag designed with the spirit of travel in mind. Defined by its maxi shape, curved design, and soft body, the ES is the ideal carryall for the jet-setter, the perfect mix of fashion and function. Crafted from elevated calf leather that is finished with a semi-shine effect, the bag features the House’s distinct lozenge quilt on the exterior and the interior of the bag.
The final touches include a gold lock, leather case, and an XL YSL Cassandre signature logo. This time, the maxi signifier is stitched onto the center of the bag for a tone-on-tone minimalist logo vibe. Part tote, part duffle, it features a zip top, long top handles, and a removable leather strap. Inside there is an organic cotton lining and two pockets—a zippered pocket and a slit pocket. Overall dimensions are 22″ x 19″ x 7.4″. Purchase via Saint Laurent for $4,700
It’s a beautiful bag but I’ve learned the hard way, the bigger the bag, the heavier and harder it will be to carry. This may not be a problem if you’re just going from car to hotel lobby or private jet. But if you’re a normal person, schlepping a fully loaded bag like this down long airport concourses won’t be fun, trust me. And the shoulder strap doesn’t look like much help either.
These bags are only good for people who are carrying very little in them. Notice that the bags pictured are at best half full and really being used as purses. The handle rips from the leather of bag when it is actually full and then carried. Same is true for the leather Dior Book Bag. No amount of repair can truly fix it. Learned this the hard way as well.
I love RHW’s coat!! Anyone know who makes it? Max Mara perhaps?? The bag would be nice if it was not so big but I suppose for travel it’s perfect.
the coat is also Saint Laurent
funny! I have almost this exact same coat from the 1980s – Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. I am thrilled to see the house looking back to the old designs, as they are timeless and fabulous.
Lucky you! Rive Gauche stuff was delicious back in the day. Sadly my things for the 80s have all shrunk so I don’t fit in them now… ;-D
Hahahaha! Well, there is a lot that I have that I do not still fit into (tiny skirts and trousers mostly, saving for the beauty of the objet), and there was a great deal that i took to Paris to sell at Reciproque back in the early 1990’s, but I was lucky enough to have a bought A LOT of YSL jackets, blazers, coats and silk blouses that I kept and still wear regularly. Because i often bought at sales, I used to take almost every size as having worth, whether it fit me on that particular day or not. Fortunately many of those pieces I bought as large back then, now fit! HA!
I cannot imagine carrying an actual weekend’s worth of stuff in a bag that has no shoulder strap (and no wheels!). Nor can I imagine carrying a gigantic bag with nothing in it. So, this bag seems……cute but useless.
It has a shoulder strap
No kidding – having no shoulder strap is almost the worst…. Back in the early1980s, before luggage had wheels, I had a trolley onto which I would fasten my Vuitton luggage so that i could roll it around, because, believe me, trying to carry, by hand, the Vuitton Sac Sport, ca. 1983, was nigh on to impossible, but dragging it through the narrow airplane aisles on a trolley was downright embarrassing, too. Not sure which was worse, but trying to carry it would have required me to be a different sort of packer, another person, and I was usually going for long trips….
so this is basically a soft, quilted, travel LV Alma lookalike… I need time to think about it
A beautiful lux overnight bag so long as you don’t have to carry it too far.
So wait, y’all, does this mean I can start carrying my old LV Sac Flanerie 50 (that I now use for my drawing equipment) as a PURSE?! WOW! That’ll save some money! For that matter any of the old Vuitton Sirius luggage pieces that are stored in the closet will work! Get out your old suitcases to achieve this look.
Love the look, afraid it will be heavy, when filled with my junk!
Got it. Love it. It’s perfect.
I have no wish to become a pack mule.
I have the new YSL tote it’s plenty big enough. Any bigger and it may overwhelm you and the weight would be very hard on your shoulders.
